The head coach for Montana sold his house to the head coach of and NDSU, when he coached in Wyoming. NDSU, has a long coaching tree and these Northern states.

These comments come from folks of shallow minds as they don't know, or they don't have the comprehension to understand that they are in a lower tier playoff.

Perhaps someday, they will call the lower tiers a different name such as Flight 1, Flight 2, etc. referring the folks who win their flight as to winners of the flights, not winning the championship like they do in golf.

I'm such a huge Bison fan I watched the last two minutes of the game last night. In contrast I watched Willie Burton lose to Georgia Tech in the Elite Eight when I was 8, so kindly fuck off and stop acting like there are actual NDSU fans hanging around this forum that think they "would be in the B1G championship game every year"

yikes. Not sure this discussion called for profanity but you do you. If you actually read the back and forth that you yourself had with me you will note I specifically said the numbers of NDSU fans may no longer be here on Gopherhole. But they certainly were in year's past. They "hung around here" indeed. And If you don't think they had an inflated opinion of their football program, well, you haven't interacted with one of them.

I don't think it's crazy to suggest that the top FCS teams could play with some G5 teams.

Just like the top D2 teams could play with some FCS teams.

and the top D3 teams could play with some D2 teams.

there is some overlap between the best of a lower division and the worst of an upper division.

Like how a good Class A boys basketball team in MN could beat some Class 2A teams and so forth.

I think goes back to NDSU and other programs fans trolling the board (as previously stated by others). I don't really follow NDSU, SDSU, Montana State and others. Sometimes their fans do get a little annoying in person when they make grandiose statements and that they could just walk right in and dominate the likes of the BigTen (Yes I've actually had such "conversations"). With that said, I don't pay attention to those programs very much if at all because I am too busy following the Gophers.

There are quite literally Bison fans I've encountered that do not realize they are not winning the championship of the highest level of college football. Most do realize this, but those people absolutely do exist.

There are also more than a few Bison fans who really do believe their team should be in the B1G or the Big 12 and don't understand at all about markets, TV, travel, their tiny stadium, remote location or anything other than NDSU football.

Fan forums are to a certain extent, out of touch with reality. If you want to see a whole other dimension, check out Bisonville. The folks there think that they ought to be FBS, that there is a conspiracy to keep them out of FBS so they don't dominate FBS, that all that needs to happen is for their admin to get off their asses and make some calls to xyz conference, etc., that there are big money donors ready and willing to make it all happen. And it isn't limited to a few nuts. It is a heavily trafficked forum and the chorus sings in unison.

I think the top 3 or 4 teams absolutely could play with most G6 teams. There are a few diamonds in the rough to be sure, but a lot of the players that are playing and making an impact at xDSUs are low 3* players that chose xDSU while holding many G6 (and even some P4) offers. The big issue is always depth. The best FCS teams have depth relative to other FCS teams. But with 22 fewer scholarships, the depth dries up.

Agreed. What turns me is when the conversation shifts to a program that has 65 scholarships can compete week in and week out with programs that have 85 scholarships without missing a beat. I had to explain once why NDSU would need major upgrades to their facilities to join the BigTen.

As much as our stadium is made fun of for it's size, could you imaging Ohio State or Nebraska visiting the Fargo dome?

Upgrade in facilities lol? NDSU has an endowment of roughly 460 million compared to the U's roughly 5 plus billion. Being in the Big Ten and a Power Five conference is also about research. They don't even have a medical school or a law school.

I never understood the unfettered hatred some folks seem to have for the nearby FCS school that has enjoyed an historic run of success over the last couple decades. It's a head-scratcher, to say the least. I'm sure there are more accurate words but "petty" is the first one that comes to mind?

You’ve got it backwards. Most Gopher fans couldnt care less about NDSU, their football team, or their fans. It would have stayed that way.

But Gopherhole (and personal experiences) was long ago invaded by Bisonville characters tooting their horns with all the crackpot inflated stories that have been recounted around your misguided post. It used to be a continual issue and it spawned what you call “unfettered hatred” which is actually not hatred at all, but just enough attention to jab at them with a little humor, that’s all.

I recall the last time I had to put up with it in person (which was long before it subsided in the GH invasion)… I was walking back to my car after Jerry Kill’s loss to NDSU and ended up with two drunken Bison fans spontaneously following me screaming “We’ve got oil yes we do, we’ve got oil how ‘bout YOU?”

Hopefully this helps you understand the “ununderstandable”. Lesson one: it isn’t hatred, it’s humor/jabbing. Lesson two: you had the cause and effect backwards.

I agree. However, my thought was just to address the immediate with such a clueless fan. The BigTen is research and also accreditation. Looking at you Nebraska...
 

I am not a Bison lover but also not a Bison hater. Question for those of you that laugh at their success as an FCS power. What have they done in the past 15 years that makes you believe if they went FBS they wouldn't be a good team? Not saying a national threat but even on the Gopher level of success.

They have beat some very good FBS teams - yes, I know it is only one game, not 12 in a row, but I saw a picture of their offensive line from a few years ago - all 5 lineman started a game in the NFL. They have had two quarterbacks drafted in the top 5 and have 3 quarterbacks currently in the NFL. There have been a ton of other players drafted and currently playing.

If they made the move to the FBS it would for sure not be an easy game for the Gophers. Again, not saying they would compete for National Championships but they wouldn't suddenly become an 0-12 team either. A quick google search said they had 12 players on NFL rosters to start the year. For context, we had 14 - Kansas State and Northwestern had 12 also, Iowa State 11, Boise State 10.
 

I guess I don't feel the burden of "what if" is on me. I'd say it would be easy enough to find out exactly what would happen if NDSU went to the FBS level without hypothetical guessing if... they simply went to the FBS level.

I don't think people are laughing at their success. I think many are laughing at what certain NDSU "fans" are interpreting what their success means.
