Nadine Babu: Gophers Look to Junior Devoe Joseph for Leadership and Scoring

GH: Do you like playing the point or shooting guard?
DJ: I like playing everything. I love playing with Al because he sets everyone up and finds you open. He is good at kicking out to me and I want to do that for him as well. He can blow buy guys. Together we’ll work together real well.

GH: If you were Tubby Smith who would you start?
DJ: Right now I would say it will be Al, Blake, Rodney, Ralph and Colton. With Tubby’s teams it changed throughout the year. We have a lot of good guys and we will all push each other in practice.

Thx Nadine

I still don't see why Rodney should start over Devoe based on last years performances.

GopherLady, Thanks again for another fun interview. Good to get to know a little something about the guys other than just the basketball angle. Doc

GH: What would people be surprised to know about Walker?
DJ: He can cook. He made some great pasta and that’s great to have as a roommate.

Mo might want to cut back on the pasta a bit... jusy sayin.....

defense and rebounding. Plus you probably don't want the only 2 experienced PGs on the roster starting together and you also need someone in that 2nd unit that can score.

Just because you start doesn't mean you will play 30 minutes. I like having Joseph coming off the bench right now. If healthy, he's still going to play 25+ minutes a game. Remember "instant offense" Quincy Lewis?

Ture, I was thinking more of starting them together, but almost always having one on the court at all times.

There are definitively some positives in having Devoe and Mbakwe to provide a spark off the bench.

On being pushed.

Is there any thought that maybe Hollins will push Rodney? I know he's a SG and Rodney is a SF but the skills arround the basket and in transition appeared similar in the NES game.

The whole world knows that Rodney has the "freak athlete" tag but that doesn't mean production. Can they each produce? D? Scoring (penetrating, put backs, shooting)? Assists? Few TOs? Steals? Rebounds? Productive decisions?

I hesitate to post this because I anticipate a flood of indignate put-downs and maybe I won't get any usefull information. My screen wasn't always the clearest (couldn't always make out the faces or numbers) but Andre looked like he had some talent. His wing span appeared such that he may not have to bend over to tie his shoes.

and rodney wasnt improved, lets get real here, rodney is a monster on the fastbreak, taller, stronger, more athletic, better D, looks to be putting the pieces together so far. I love hollins, but no way he takes rodney's spot, especially as a freshman

I thought for sure we would hear About Devoe's rumored injury. What is the nature of the injury and what is the extent of the injury?

I was thinking that too. He moved fine out there, must be something they didn't want to risk aggravating during a blow-out exhibition game?

Thanks :) I believe that you know more about the answer to my question than I do. Your reasoning makes sense to me. Now I can get off of that.
