N. Suh not impressed by Cosgrove

I don't care what the statistics say or don't say. I only know what I see on the field. This is the best Gopher defense since the Tyrone Carter years. And it is going to be better next year.

i think offensive stats tell a truer story. Defensive stats if they ever say anything meaningful at all usually say more about the offense. The eyes are indeed the better judge when it comes to defense.

Bottom line is, defense was NOT our problem, and we have been improving for total defense in the national rankings:

2006 - #113 (Lockwood)
2007 - #119 (Withers)
2008 - #73 (everyone was VERY happy with Ted Roof, and he was considered our best coach by many)
2009 - #62 with Cosgrove as Co-Coordinator

As far as getting to an elite program, I'm pretty happy with the progress we've made. Going from just about the worst defenses in the nation, to the middle of the pact is quite commendable. Also, being able to do that with a different coordinator 4 years in a row is even more impressive.

I'm a big Cosgrove fan, and will continue to be one unless he gives me reason not to. As for now, I think our D is going in the right direction.

GopherLady quit using logic and statistical data to back up your point! If they want to believe Cos is a bad coach then let them? I mean it couldn't be that the little dictator Cahallan would not allow him to call and coach the type of defenses he wanted too or possibly play the players he believed should be playing?

Headcoaches overuling staff happens way more than the average fan would ever know. Cos did not forget how to coach defense, he was just not allowed to coach the type of defense he wanted.

I would also had to your stats GopherLady that the gophers defense improved while playing a more difficult schedule. Congradulations to coach Brewster for making two good defensive coordinator hires in Cosgrove and Lee.

As for Suh (who is one helluva player and seems like a great kid), is it me or does anyone else want these guys to just shut up when asked about former coaches?QUOTE]

So this guy who finishes fourth in the Heisman vote and is projected a top 3 pick in the NFL draft was going to transfer, sit out a year, and come back for a sixth season with Oregon State? Sure I believe that;)

I had to make sure that the poles were still aligned along a North South orientation and it pains me greatly to say this (I'll probably get over it). I agree with Schnoods. Must go wash, I feel dirty...;)

My bad, it would have been after his sophomore year or third year.

Maybe the guy is learning to stop the pass as well as the run. Notice Iowa was the 1st game he walked up the DB's and challenged the receivers. A step in the right direction. Maybe he is not to old to learn.

You must be a chick then. That's usually how they end up feeling.

Cosgrove personally chose not to recruit Grant Olson out of Wayzata. G.O. finished 2nd in career tackles to James Lauraniatis at Wayzata aka Linebacker High. Keep in mind Gopher faithful that Laurinaitis left because that staff wanted him to play DE. NDSU is making major push to sing G.O. watch for this kid to break the bank in two years when the Bison stampede into town once again. Make no bones about it, Olson is the better of the two inside LB's this season. The other, Tarpley is off to Stanford - and garnished the attention. Olson just got back from Wyoming, who is ready to build their D around this kid as well as NDSU. The kid will be a captain wherever he goes but Coskmo and company feel he is half an inch too short.

You don't garnish attention, that's for parsley. You garner attention. We get it. NDSU is great and have a keen eye for talent.

In his last game with Nebraska, garnish that.

Poor little guy. Guys lets cut him some slack, can you imagine if your jollies in life were received through attention on a message board??? Lets just let this little buckaroo feel better about himself before the holidays...........
