Any insights on oto and elliot in practice how they are doing?

Myron P. Medcalf:
Tubby loves both guys. He praises their efforts often.

Oto has filled out. He's probably packed on 10 to 15 pounds of muscle since he arrived. Elliott has also added weight.

I think both guys will contribute next season.

Oto is a big shooter and he's a good athlete. Eliason is a legit 7-footer who will add more size to a large frontcourt.

Last chat you said that you thought Tubby would leave after this season with the Charlotte Bobcats being number one on the list of likely destinations for Coach Smith. This week the Bobcats made interim Coach Paul Silas Head Coach and signed him through next season. Would you like to revise your prediction?

Myron P. Medcalf:
Prediction Someone asked for my gut reaction. Guys, I'm not in Tubby's mind. This isn't "Inception."

I'm guessing. Yes, I think Tubby will end up taking another job. Call it what you want.

He hasn't signed an extension and he doesn't have a facility.

But maybe he'll decide to sign an extension tomorrow. Who knows.

I know the lack of a facility is a major, major issue for him, according to those close to him. If this school can't make more progress in the near future, it will only increase the chance that he leaves.

Myron: ... Tubby will take another job

His opinion? My opinion is that Myron doesn't know his a$$ from a hole in the ground.

Myron P. Medcalf: Taylor had committed to the Badgers by the time Tubby arrived. That guy wanted to be a Badger. Not sure Tubby would have changed that. I think Leuer flew under the Gophers' radar.

But you can't let those guys get away.

Go Gophers!!

Myron and Gopherlady will be applying for a job at TMZ. They both are gossip-driven with very little knowledge. They will be chasing Tubby all day to see what he does and then they will release a story based on pure speculation and zero fact.

Have you guys seen Tubby in an interview with Myron and other reporters. Tubby doesn't even make an eye contact with the guy because he knows that Myron is full of crap.

Hopefully, along with a new facility, Gophers will get a new reporter also.

Myron P. Medcalf: Andre Hollins. Or one of the point guard targets they're after Henry Brooks, a prep point guard from Georgia (http://blogs.ajc.com/georgia-high-s...ry-brooks-a-minnesota-basketball-scholarship/) or Chris Colvin, a juco point guard.

I didn't understand this response either. Am I reading this wrong or is Myron saying Brooks is a PG? Doubtful considering he's 6'7".

I thought that too. Then I realized it's Myron and I can't assume anything he says is accurate.

Brooks is listed at 6-7 or 6-8 and generally plays PF at Miller Grove HS.

Myron has an IQ of 67 or 68 and generally gets most everything wrong.

Again Myron (pronounced More-On) is clueless. Hoffarber or Leuer had a chance at Gopher's last scholarship in 2007 class. Hoffarber acted first on the offer.

Yeah, I don't think a 4-star recruit got "under their radar" unless Dan Monson didn't have a computer, cell phone, or two cups with a string attached ... I doubt he was "under their radar"

I strongly disagree with your assessment of GopherLady. She is head an shoulders above MM in both sources and quality of information, IMHO.

+1. Plus she doesn't earn a living doing it, or pass herself off as a pro, even though she is 10x better then Mr. Metcalf.

I don't get the hate for the guy.

He's frequently (if not always) WRONG. He makes stuff up. He's clueless on Gopher sports. And he's often (if not always) negative.

The worst beat writer I've ever read. And I've been reading sports page for over 50 years.

The reason that I included her is the fact that her opinion of Tubby and the program is very subjective. Like Myron, she speculates too much. She says that Tubby is making excuses for his lack of success for the past two years. Since the new football stadium did not help the football team, a new facility will not help the basketball team. Now, you tell me how stupid this comment is.

She says that no improvments have been made for the past 4 years. Again, you tell me how stupid this comment is. Gophers are among as few teams in the country who have beaten 2 top ten teams this season. If this is not improvement, I am not sure where she got such a high standard.

Opinions are by definition- subjective. It sounds as though you may have taken her out of context. I'd love to hear a quotation where she said that.

As always, I agree with Beeg.

:)

Do we have to start a new thread every time Moron Medcalf finds another stupid thing to write?

The difference between MM and Gopher Lady's info is that MM is a REPORTER and shouldn't opine much. Gopher Lady can do that (and she does it well). I'm not saying that MM is a great writer, just the difference between the two.

2nd bga's comment. Being critical of someone having a subjective opinion is pretty silly. Also, that's what her blog is there for.

OK, I am sorry for being so critical of her. You all are right. She has the right to think that way like every fan in the stat of MN. I don't have to agree with her. I understand your point. I wasn't making it up. It was in one of the posts where her name was in the title. I have my share of contructive criticism but I will wait until the end of the season. For now, I cheer for our team to win the next 5 games.

TRT,

Is that you? :)

We do agree.... Go Gophers !!!

Can you show me where she said all of this? I rarely recall her being negative toward Tubby.

That is exactly what happened, the fact that there was only one scholership available is where the problem existed. Monson waisted a couple of scholerships on Juco's that never accomplished anything the year before.

You can look at her Twitter feed during any game the Gophers lose - lots of ripping on Tubby's offense, substitution patterns, the team not getting better, etc.

(Disclaimer: I like reading GL's insights and her in game twitter thoughts might represent a lot of frustration as the game is not going well - I am just providing examples)

QUOTE]

I can't even watch them because of the offense and that no one has improved much under Tubby. They can't play Tubby ball, if they can't score the ball.

Hate?

I don't get the hate for the guy.

I certainly don't hate Myron (never met the man) and I doubt many on here hate him either.

He's just an embarassment to the newspaper industry, does a disservice to the team that he covers, and for the most part, an embarassment to himself.

I don't even have a problem with him being wrong sometimes/most of the time. Anybody can be wrong from time to time. I don't think there's any real harm in that.

I dislike his juvenile writing style and he speculates WAYYYY too much in what he writes; I want to know some facts about the team, how some of the red-shirts are doing, who's injured and how their injuries are coming along, incoming recruits, etc. Spare me YOUR biased thoughts about what you THINK the coach is going to do NEXT year. It isn't that hard. Tell us what you know to be true, not what you dreamed up in a vision last night or what you'd like to see happen.

Lastly, it doesn't take reading much of his incoherent crap to tell that he isn't really a "fan", which YES, I do think you have to at least closely resemble if you're a beat reporter. You don't have to be a homer, but you can't ride the other side of the fence so consistently. I seem to remember reading somewhere that he's from f'ng Madison, which is abundantly clear if you're still reading his musings.

With every passing day, this clown makes Jeff Shelman look better and better. Shelman was good, I really enjoyed reading what he had to say. He wrote about the team, what he knew, and did it with professionalism. And he didn't feel the need to sign his stories with his middle initial. Like somehow we're going to confuse Myron with some other Myron Medcalf if he doesn't insert that initial in there.

He better not be getting paid more than $9.75/hour by the Strib. At least I hope not...

+1 to all of this. The drop-off from the beat writers at the Star Tribune for every other sport to Myron is massive. It simply doesn't make sense that they can have multiple talented writers for the Twins and Vikings and leave us with Myron for Gopher basketball. I blame whoever hired him first. Marcus over at the PP has joined Myron in being exceedingly negative, but at least he's readable and doesn't speculate mindlessly as often.
