My open letter to Wisconsin fans

That's why you hate them?

Gophers fans have been chanting azzzzzhole as far back as I can remember.

Did you read it? And you never seen 40,000 Gopher fans chanting it. My estimation of 40k Badger fans chanting it (among other obscenities) was NOT exaggerating. I saw people ACROSS THE FIELD pointing and chanting.

Also, that's not the ONLY reason.

Great letter. I love Gophers fans. How can you not love people that think football was only played prior to 1963? In fact, I used to be one. I spent many glorious Saturday afternoon's at Memorial Stadium, rooting for the maroon and gold. Then I had the good fortune of going to Madison and becoming a Badger. Suddenly I was able to ignore 23 years of bad football and now that we have hit almost 50 years, think of all the angst that it has saved me.

How can you not appreciate the classiest and the greatest fans in the country? Gophers fans always respect their opponent, they never drink, they never yell at the refs and always act with perfect decorum in every single situation. They also always pack the stadium. Supporting the team is no problem at all for the amazing Gophers fans. Just like the Green Bay Packers fans, Gophers fans are the absolute best football fans around, kind of ironic.

Every two years, I love getting together with the greatest fans in the land, being treated with such hospitality and grace. It is awesome. Looking forward to it again on Saturday.

You're our Ruppert. Obsessed with this team and fan base.

History is history, ancient or not. We have it. You? Nope.

The great consensus is Badger fans are top classless fans in the nation. Just go ahead and ask Sparty, Michigan, Herbie, etc. But go ahead and ignore your reputation with how we treat you guys (which is only reciprocated from y'all).

I hope you all break your legs walking into The Bank.

Could you imagine having over 1,000 posts on a message board for a team you're not a fan of?

Yeah, the worst part about Badger fans is they act like their program has been excellent forever. We get bashed for talking about history (pre-1960), but Bucky is allowed to only count 1994-now as history? I don't think so. Face it, the Badgers went on a 30-something year Rose Bowl drought and had a long period of futility, just like the gophers. The only difference is that we haven't gotten out of ours yet. But we are getting close thanks to Coach Kill (and his wonderful staff).

I usually like your articles a lot, but I feel like in this one you were inadvertantly praising Wisky throughout. We have plenty of reasons to hate Wisconsin without going on about their recent success. But, like I said, normally love your stuff.

That's also what I took away from it. This will make Badger fans giddy.

The only time I went to Camp Randall, three different Badger fans offered me money in the restroom to suck me off. Horrific. I'll never go back. They're animals.

Only three? Slow day.

O.K. So I'm looking at this and wondering- 40,000 Badger fans screaming "asshole"? Really? All at once? If so, pretty cool. First-orchestrated. Not to be underestimated as some effort had been made on behalf of the author. Second-nice to be recognized (for what you are) anyway. Right? Sorta like...hello?

40,000 badger fans screaming "asshole" one at a time is, of course, different. Tactical subterfuge. Cost that Badger fan one second. 40,000 of them cost you eleven hours. Renders, by itself, all else as irrelevant. Mission accomplished.

'Course, there could be a wee tad bit of hysteria surrounding Badger fan behavior?

Naaah.

This post, besides making very little logical sense, reeks of hypocrisy. In your first breath you call the OP an asshole, and in the second you say that Gophers fans are demonstrating "hysteria surrounding Badger fan behavior"?

I guarantee you we wouldn't be so hysterical if you all would stop being such chodes.

Wow, you must give off some sort of aura.

Read the article. Wasn't me. It was the author's perception.

"...But walking down State Street and into Camp Randall wasn't a picnick. Being called an 'ASSSSSSHOLLEE!' by 40,000 drunk BADger fans as we made our way down to our seats certainly left a lasting image..."

A tad over-the-top. Hysterical even.

Like, ummm....you.

You're the worst kind of fan I know. Team goes into a tailspin and you jump ship. What an absolute jackwagon you are.

Having lived in Wisconsin for seven years before coming to my senses and moving out, I found one common thread amongst their football fans: If their football team wins, they think it actually makes them a better person. Perhaps it's their fondness for binge drinking that leads to this, but both Badger and Packer fans will act like they're smarter, tougher and better because a bunch of guys wearing their colors have won a football game. I knew plenty of both Packers and Badgers fans whose week would literally be ruined if either team lost a game the previous weekend.

For most sensible folks, football is merely an entertaining diversion on the weekend. If the team wins, then you feel good about it and move on to the rest of your life. But Badger and Packer fans actually think it's elevates their lives and takes them to another level of existence. And that's how they act. It would be funny if it wasn't so pathetic.

Well what else do they have to do in Wisconsin, with no jobs available and whatnot.

Nice work Formo - but your list is awfully, awfully short. And not nearly as venomous in tone as I would have expected. You should have contacted me and we could of collaborated. ;)

I agree, that was pretty short and gentle.
I liked MV's hate blog post from a few years back on the FBT blog.

Basically though, there's no wrong way to hate wisconsin. F em.

I hate the institution and sports programs of Wisconsin the most, but I hate the fans of Iowa the most. Most Badger fans I've met, while being slightly arrogant, have been pretty fun to hang out with. Always got the beer flowing and love to party.

Normally I would have been spitting vitriol.. But I have close friends and family Badger fans that would be reading and I didn't want to make my holidays any worse than they could be. lol
