I was perusing some of the Wisky boards just to get an idea of what I will be amongst this
Saturday. A SOLID majority not only expect them to win, but win BIG. Some were calling
for them to roll-up 50 or more.

VERY few of the fans have any amount of respect for this Gopher team. That's okay.
I kinda like it that way.

There are a small number who think it will be close (with them winning, of course), but they
are quickly drowned out by the crowd.

How sweet would a win feel? I hope we find out!

They tend to base their view on two things:

1) Their own blowout of Nebraska,

and

2) They see the Gophers as a team that got beat by 23 to TCU, choked to Illinois,
and should have had its clocked cleaned by tOSU.

They use the Nebraska game as a common opponent comparison. However, they
willingly choose to ignore the same regarding Iowa. In fact, they called our best
win to be over Michigan and cited they aren't even bowl-eligible.

Ohhhh.....I'm so glad I'm going to this one. LOL

I would say close wins in Iowa City and Lincoln are identical, blowouts of those two at home are identical, road losses to Illinois and Northwestern are identical and a neutral site loss to a good LSU team is very comparable to a blowout of a very very good TCU team on the road. Road victories of both Michigan and Rutgers were similar and a 10 point home win to Illinois is somewhat similar to a TD W over Northwestern. Most would also expect about a 7-10 point loss to OSU if they were to play.

I wonder if their heads would explode if someone brought up Northwestern...

They are favored by 13. Their fans are not the only ones who believe they will dominate the game.

Similar to those who thought Nebby would win by more than a touchdown...

3) The fact that we lose to them every year. This year is the same story as 2008... probably a bit less hyped, actually.

Wait - are you seriously saying the 2008 game had more hype surrounding it than this year?? I must be mistaking your post...I know you're a troll and all, but no game that involved Brewster is anywhere near as important as one that will decide who goes to Indy.

Gophers put together 60 minutes of football like they played against Iowa and they bring home the axe. Biggest difference is that Minnesota has a defense. As great as Wiscy's one trick pony is...he's not running against Nebraska on Saturday. Turnovers will favor the Gophers. The tide has turned...

Its called arrogance.

Like Michael Oher stated "it was time for him (them) to go!"

I hope we can break the streak and shut those mouths up. they think they belong in the elite status and flaunt and strut about it.

its time that they get taken to the woodshed and brought down a level or two. if you know what i mean

I watched most of last years' game and wow did PN9 play horribly! Missed quite a few wide open receivers, made very poor decisions, Cobb had a fumble, 9 had a fumble, Maxx had a fumble, it was horrible. The thing is, that with all those problems we only lost 20-7. Watching that game, and seeing the improvements this year made me feel better about the game Saturday. It will still be a difficult game, but I really think we have a good chance.

I find it very interesting that with all the samck Connie fans sling they have never (NEVER) held an edge in the total won/loss totals for this series.

yes i know it goes back over 100 years but never? so with how they have handled us in the past 15 years they are still several years away from getting to even and there is a good chance things start to swing back to the gophers.

shows how horrible a history the Badgers have had overall

I'd be confident too if I were them. They've mostly rolled their schedule, which has been relatively soft but in a sneaky way. Our schedule has been more difficult, but our play has been very inconsistent. Poor games vs poor to middling teams NW, PU, and ILL matter. Our team has come out flat in a lot of games. That means we are inconsistent and consistency is as important as upside in the long run. The tide is changing, but this may be a year too soon. With all else nearing equal this is a road game, our team is still young, and only a fool would think that a hampered David Cobb is comparable to a healthy MG.

Another thing that would make me confident is the Vegas Line. It seems like the casinos are inviting unequal money on the Gophs. If that line holds, it would seem that the casinos will be betting on Sconnie and you know how that usually goes.

It's not like I think there is no hope, our inconsistency also means we have frequently out-performed our statistical averages and we may well do that on Saturday, but you can surely see why fans of a team who has beaten us for a decade straight feel confident this week. I bet they wish they could say the same for their coach.

Nine straight wins at home by an average margin of 20.1 against one opponent will tend to make a fanbase cocky.

I think their cockiness makes them ripe for plucking. We can win this thing. We have a very good defense that should keep us in it. With a turn over or two, anything can happen.

We haven't been blown out all conference season. I don't expect that to change in the last game.

And I don't think we'd lose by more than 14 on the road to TCU if we played again.

Let's just hope the Badger football team is as overconfident as their fans are.

I agree with you. They don't sound much different from the more fanatical, but less curious, fans of most successful programs who really don't pay much attention to the things their opponents are doing during the season and only get worried if they are facing a highly ranked opponent.

Yes, the Gophers have shown some inconsistency this year, but they've played pretty solid football overall since the Illinois loss. Iowa was their best game in years. Other than a couple of key defensive mistakes, the played admirably against Ohio State. Other than some poor defensive pursuit in the first half, they played quite well against Nebraska who had a lot to play for at home. The odds may not be with them in this game, but, as another poster mentioned, the Gophers have not been blown out in conference all season long and I don't expect that to change here. I expect that the team's confidence will be fairly high particularly if Cobb is reasonably healthy.

I like the continued, under-the-radar, not-taken-seriously, we are nobodies treatment our team gets. I hope it continues into next year.

Good lord! I'm ready to suit up now and hit the Badgers in the mouth. That is if I wasn't out of shape, getting old and and all together lacking the athleticism of a D1 athlete. In that case I'll probably just take a nap instead. I'm so ready for this game tho.

The inconsistency stuff as an argument against the Gophers' ability to win is getting old. Yes we lost to Illinois. Wisconsin lost to NW. Missouri lost to Indiana. ND lost to NW. Every college fb team I've watched this year has experienced inconsistency of some sort. Every player has had ups and downs. Their coaches and home fans will be happy to tell us all about it. I think we all know our own weaknesses better than anybody else and tend to focus on those while highlighting other teams' strengths.

That being said, BADger fans, in an exercise of ignorant bliss, do exactly the opposite.

On Wisconsin. This is what I expect.dead badger.jpg

Go Gophers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Was Paul Westerberg talking about the Gophers when he sang, "We are the sons of no one, Bastards of Young"? I like that this team keeps surprising those who haven't been paying attention.

My guess is UW fans are also remembering us squeezing by a terrible Purdue team (a game we very nearly lost). They haven't had a game like that at home.

I just went back and read the play by play of last year's ax game to remember it. WOW did we play awful that game...lost fumbles, failure to finish drives in any meaningful way, etc.

This Wisconsin team is beatable. We are going to have to play an excellent game, and someone (hopefully Cobb, but if not then next man up) needs to be extremely productive from the RB position

This is a beatable Wisconsin team. Even if I were a neutral I'd take +13 any day of the week.

They play Rutgers and Maryland in their crossover games and we play osu and Michigan. Which two would you rather play?

Prior to the season or now? OSU is obviously the cream but didn't michigan lose to both?

Inside College Football on the CBS sports channel had all panelists pick Wisconsin. Their prediction simulator says 33-13 Wisky.
