This seems just like a ranking by record vs. who would win head-to-head. For instance, I love the Indiana story this year and I would love from them to win the B1G. However, they got extremely lucky in that their first game vs. a team that is actually good this year is this week – and, they are 12.5 point dogs. I don’t think you typically see a point spread like this for a match-up of Top 5 programs. For reference, the point spread we have for our game vs. PSU is 11.5 points. So, it implies the gap between us and PSU (#4 vs. unranked) is less than between #2 and #5.

Here is my modified rankings based on who I believe would win head-to-head if they played right now:

OSU
Oregon
PSU
Indiana
Illinois
Iowa
Michigan
Minnesota
Washington
USC
Rutgers
Wisconsin
UCLA
Nebraska
MSU
Maryland
Northwestern
Purdue

Just relooked at the current B1G+ standings and boy did the loss to Rutgers hurt.

Both JG and Burnsie talked about missed opportunities on the Sunday morning after show but that really is the case.

Still a minimum two chances to be special this season but a tall order this Saturday. Not impossible, just a tall order.

Every year we have the discussion about missed opportunities. This team should be sitting at 7-3 or 8-2, but we're 6-4. Need to win at least one of these games to feel good about the season IMO.

Agreed on winning one of the last two in order to feel "good". USC, UCLA, and maybe Illinois are looking at their loss to us as a missed opportunity, just as we do the UNC, Michigan, and Rutgers losses.

I am loving the balance of the Big Ten this year. Seven teams currently sit at 4-3, 4-4, or 3-4

Well, Minnesota beat Illinois. Yes, we also lost to Michigan... kind of, but...

I'm not exactly unbiased, but I'd take Minnesota over both Illinois and Michigan if we were playing either of those teams this Saturday.
Rutgers beat us too. But I’d take us in a rematch

It’s like all the teams from 5-17 are pretty close or something

If any of them could’ve gone unbeaten against the average teams…they’d be Indiana

I agree. But then as I said, I'm biased.

Looking at the B1G standings, the thing that sticks in my craw is the simple, undeniable fact that we can't quite seem to catch Iowa. It bugs me even worse than the close losses we've had this season. The Hawkeyes always end up just that little bit better than us. It's frustrating. We should be able to beat them at least half the time.

I don’t know. Why “should” we? They have been a better program than us for 30 years, wouldn’t you agree? We get close at times but just not quite as good.
