In my opinion, there are three tiers in the Big Ten. Good luck trying to figure out the list in the middle tier. So interchangeable.

Couldn't agree more. You could make that same argument for PSU too. I'd put Oregon then OSU.
 

I mean Indiana and tOSU had Nebraska on their home fields and we saw the results. Indiana should be ahead of tOSU at this point. Power Rankings are not polls, they simply showing week to week who is playing well. Polls are for who you think is the better team.
 

I think the rankings are about right. Who has Ohio St beat? Iowa is their best win.

Penn St beat Illinois. Indiana made Nebraska look like a FCS team.

Indiana deserves some credit. They beat everyone on their schedule so far. That is difficult for any team.
 


Illinois beat Purdue by 1
Northwestern beat Maryland
Rutgers beat Washington and lost by 7 to Nebraska


there might only be two tiers


But I generally agree with these rankings.
Winning close games is the difference between 5th and 15th this year

There is a decent sized gap between tier 1 and tier 2. If there are 3 tiers the gap between tier 2 and tier 3 is very small. Rutgers, Purdue, Northwestern definitely deserve to be at the back of the power rankings but they aren't far from many of the teams just above them.

The toughest part with these power rankings is ordering the group right after the top 4. But that should get a little easier after this weekend when MN/ILL play and Iowa/Wisconsin square off.

I wonder how the former Pac 12 teams are feeling about their new home. Has gone well for Oregon but USC, UCLA and Washington are having a rough go of things in their first season in the Big Ten.

UCLA had 5 losing seasons in the 8 preceding the move and lost their coach who gave them their 3 good ones.

USC has been struggling to find consistent 9 win seasons since Pete Carrol left. They have 1 9 win season in the 6 years preceding the move. They were 5-4 in the pac 12 last year. I thought they’d be a bit better this year but they are a couple of plays away from being 6-2 or 7-1

Excluding the Chris Peterson years Washington has 2 10 win seasons since 2001. Both of which were the last two years. They lost that coach and QB

I don’t think anything is too unexpected in the transition personally.
