Sports section has become unreadable. Nothing on gophers game today - nothing after game report - but plenty of Viking stuff everyday - a team missing the playoff. Hardly any high school scores or schedules. Why did I renew my subscription?

My subscription expires in January and I've already told them that I will not be renewing. I managed to get a one year subscription to the Pioneer Press for $1.00 a month. It's even worse than the Star Tribune, but at least the price is right.

Expect phone calls - the final deal is free papers.

If you want great coverage of the pro sports teams, try The Athletic. Unfortunately, they provide minimal coverage of the gophers.

The strib was never a great paper but at least the sports section was ok. Now it's all crap.

It's a worthless newspaper.

Things will get worse when they start printing in Des Moines next Sunday -- likely even earlier deadlines and longer delivery routes.

Great, it's a frick'n crap shoot now on delivery. We've had both the Saturday and Sunday edition delivered on a Monday afternoon as well as never seeing it. Trying hard to stay polite when complaining to the rep on the phone, but it's not like we live in Warroad.

Glad we agree on something. It’s tough to be in a dying industry. I’m sure there are some good people there.

People still get the printed version? I would not expect much if any real pregame coverage at all for today's matchup other than Gophersports.

I wouldn’t mind a couple print versions each week just to help start fires.

In my fireplaces, not like arson.

They seem to have given up on covering Gopher basketball altogether unless Reusse or Scoggins write a column about it.

And, remember, it is now called the Minnesota Star Tribune. My prediction is print version will be dead by summer time with the printing done in Des Moines.

Most Gopher basketball games get a Joel Rippel "story", but it is buried when it is there. And, on line, you can't tell from the headline that they might have coverage of other Gopher sports in that same story. It would take someone at the paper about a minute or two to break up the story on line and give them each separate headlines.

It hasn't been called the Minnapolis Tribune for more than forty years so that gave me a good hint of what was to come in this thread...

Forget sports.

The death of newspapers has been a sad and ultimately very damaging development for our democracy. Newspapers used to keep our government honest.

Glen Taylor accomplished exactly what he set out to do with the Strib and as a result, he’s run it into the ground.

Billionaires have been buying up media outlets for years and pushing them in a direction that’s suitable to them and their political beliefs. Rupert Murdoch is a fun case study (if you have the time to look into the history of News Corp. and Fox Corporation) in how he’s built and used his stronghold on media across the world to influence and push us in a direction that we see today. We’re talking about media outlets in the hundreds. Very much a divide and conquer approach.
