Moss leaving USC for portal

What we do at QB relies on what PJ, Greg, and the rest of the staff thinks of Drake Lindsay as a starter next year.

Quarterbacks may not bother to commit here if we keep going after transfers in that position. Hard to tell how good Lindsay is from our vantage point. I'd say give him a chance if he looks good as he would be around for a few years.

I mean, welcome to current day college football. Having to compete with transfer QBs is pretty much the case for every FBS program in the top 50.

Benched.
Did Moss get hurt or was he benched in favor of Rocky Maiava?

That said, he’d be an interesting one to look at. Little risky with the ball but think he could be a very good fit here. I do hope pj portals someone in to compete with Lindsay no matter how good he thinks he is in practice

I think the HS QBs realize that’s the new normal; just like in HS, you gotta compete, and he’d be in the same metaphorical 🛶 if he transferred also.

No clue if Moss is someone the staff would go after but if they felt Drake needed another year as the backup, Moss would make for an intriguing option.

Best case scenario they truly believe Drake is ready but after the mess with Athan and the success of bringing in Brosmer I doubt they will leave things up to chance. Will be interesting to see how involved we are in the College QB Carousel....it is a wild ride that lots of teams are on.

Unless the high school QB is a five-star prospect, they can probably expect to sit. Curious to see what happens in Michigan with Underwood switching from LSU to Michigan (big NIL deal is supposedly the primary reason, but Underwood is a Michigan kid). As we saw with Raiola at Nebraska, a big-time talent prone to brain farts.

Underwood, if competent, should easily start in front of ant QB on their roster I saw plythis year.

With Michigan having better talent and being a run first offense, he should have time to get comfy.

Top 4 are Seniors (no idea if any have any eligibility left or not). #5 is some cat named Jacob Clark.
Pretty sure he is out of eligibility after this year as well but who knows with the way eligibility works these days.

NCAA shows him as a Jr./SW Mizz says he's a Sr. He was here for 3 seasons, one was a redshirt, one the Covid "freebie". He only played 4 games in 23 before a season-ending injury, so there might be a medical redshirt available (if those still exist), your guess is as good as mine.

There a Manning sitting for the second year in the row in Texas. If these QBs think they are something they should look at that situation and take a lesson. I’m a huge Drake Lindsey fan but if he’s not ready he’s not ready.

It could be hard to recruit/transfer top QBs here when our WR room is looking rough! At least PJ could dangle Daniel Jackson last offseason. Le'Meke Brockington goes from WR3 to WR1. I haven't seen anything that says he can handle that load. People in the know seem to boast the most about how good a blocker Le'Meke is. I'm not sure that's the top trait I want in a WR. He's a redshirt junior now so how much untapped upside is left?

I also don't know of any recent recruits or haven't seen any receivers play this year besides our top three that have flashed a lot of big time potential. I'm afraid we're going to have a rather typical old B1G West receiver room next year with a lot of guys without much speed that can't get separation. I truly hope I'm wrong! Daniel Jackson seems to have elite quickness and glue hands and Elijah just seems to have a good feel for getting open. I hope we can uncover another diamond in the rough.

Maybe we actually have the WR1 role to dangle to potential transfers? Come to the B1G and get a lot of TV time as a WR1!!! Get someone good early at WR and maybe that helps us attract QBs. We're in a bit of chicken or egg situation right now with no proven QB or WRs on the roster to attract talent.

No transfer QB who wants a starting spot guaranteed is gonna commit here. We could give that guarantee to Max last year but based on what PJ has said about Lindsey, the best we could offer is to compete for the spot.

I watched substantial parts of at least 4 USC games this year, including my attendance at HBS this year. Mark me down as unimpressed by Moss. Not to mean I think he's terrible, but nothing about him made me think "I wish he played for us". I'd say save your money for something else, PJ.

Clark has one more year, but I think he stays where he’s at. We almost certainly will ride with Lindsey as the starter next year.
