Long time reader, first time poster.

Just wondering what the boards thoughts are on him? Highly regarded coming out of high, not as much as a dual threat as MarQueis but does anyone see him taking over the starting role within the next 2 to 3 years?

Right now, who knows. Actually no one is certain who the starting QB will be in 2010.

One thing I would like to see ae progress reports on RS Frosh. How are they doing on the practice field, weight room, classroom, etc. Alipate is a big kid and I'm not sure about his mobility. I think he has a good arm but accuracy?????He could fit into the Culpepper frame.

Brewster has assembled talented depth at QB. Competition at any position is good. Whoever puts in the work and fixes their weaknesses will have a shot at starter.

I like Alipate, from everything I've read his skill set might be the best fit of all the QB's on the roster for the pro-style offense that Brewster envisions. I think a lot depends upon Gray and his development, if he thrives Alipate may have to settle for a back up role, if he struggles Alipate could certainly be starting for 2-3 years.

I like Alipate's measurables, as stated before he seems to be a good fit for the pro scheme. He may be a big boy, but he probably has a lazer/rocket arm and if he can develop some nice touch for short passes he should definitely be in the mix for PT a few years down the line.

Big arm but not accurate. I think its either him or MG for the next 3 years. I hope they find a way to play them both. They need some threats on O

Like most on this board I think he is just too big to play QB. Maybe if he kicks it into gear and loses some weight, then he would have a chance to be a reliable backup this year.

same size as peyton manning. (according to gophersports) and everyone knows he's too big to play. i think his brain and arm are more important factors. if those come along, he should be a good QB

Most of this board meaning "Whom"? Make your point, fine, but no need to add false legitimacy to it by throwing around statements that may or may not be true.

Right, maxwell. I have never given that a thought in my life! Keep in mind, "most" posters on this board justify their opinions as facts by inserting "like most on this board". DUH!

Most on this board? Unlikely. If Jarrod Lorenzen could play QB in the SEC, Alipate can do it here.

Yeah just look at Lorenzen, Culpepper, Jamarcus Russ...umm, you get the point. I don't think there is such a thing as being too big to be a qb.

Not the best examples. Those guys suck

I have to admit, I was thinking the same thing. However, more accurately, they currently suck and I think in all three cases, their size and conditioning has hurt them.

But they all were very good quarterbacks at one point in their college careers and two of the three were high first round draft picks. If MA turns out in college like they did, I think we would all be pleased.

agreed, should have been more specific. They currently suck, they were able to put together a very short run of being good (which got them nice paychecks, so I can't fault them) Moses' arm and brain will have more to do with his success or lack thereof then his size. My opinion is he will not be good, I just don't think he has good enough accuracy and reads to make up for his lack of athleticism. At least with Gray if it falls apart he can make something else happen by getting himself out of trouble and making something out of nothing. That is if he can fix his holding onto the ball problems.

They suck in the NFL, but the Gophers play in the Big 10. If any QB on our roster had a college career like any one of those guys, we'd be lucky.

I have seen Alipate play in High School and I wasn't as impressed as some, but the ones who like him are professionals who scout and analyze high school football. Lets hope they are smarter than me! Everything you hear is that he is a great kid and a hard worker. I hope we can get him to play somewhere either at QB or somewhere else, I would love to see him succeed.

I haven't seen much of Moses. I've personally seen him play twice (in actual games), and I saw him play basketball. I will say this this, the kid was not on a very good HS football team, but he hung in their and looked tough. He didn't come across incredibly impressive, but I don't know if anyone would have looked very impressive on that football team.

Here are the few things that I know:
(1) He is legitmately a large QB. I believe he is every bit of 6'5" 230 lbs (I know Weber is listed at 6'3" 220, but Moses is more than 2" and 10 lbs larger than Weber).
(2) He is certainly athletic enough to play QB. I think some people on here are confusing "large enough to play elsewhere" with "too large to play QB". In my opinion, Alipate could easily walk around at 255-265 (at the end of his career) and still be pretty athletic, he is simply that big of a kid. So the idea of him playing elsewhere could be appealing if Gray is what we hope he is.
(3) He has a big arm.

The rest is...well...unknown. None of what I said means that he will be a good QB or has any chance of beating out Gray. It's sort of an unknown. From the people that I know who are more in the know with the program, it seems to be a mixed bag. Usually I hear the same things coming of the different people I know (Hageman is going to be a monster, Tinsley might be the best player on the team, etc.), but I have heard great and very lukewarm things about this kid from different people.

Nothing against Alipate, I hope he finds a niche with this team, but I believe Gray will become the starter. What I also foresee is that in three years Tom Parish will be the best fit for the Gophers.
