At the start of December we were #103...round numbers 45 days later we are still #103.
Since we have played more conference games versus non conference...seems like improvement?
Seems like we'll be better next year? So that's a good thing.

With the Big Ten sitting at 5th in the NET (also RPI) as a conference, with the best top half in years for the Big Ten, it seems the conference NET is really being dragged down by the bottom five:

75 Penn State
101 Minnesota
109 Northwestern
115 Wisconsin
164 Rutgers

I don't know how much stock to put in the NET, and what it really means about the national strength of teams like the Gophers. But according to the NET, the Big Ten's bottom five much is much worse than the bottom fives of three of the other four Power 5 conferences:

PAC-12
Washington State 44
Oregon State 59
California 82
Washington 85
Arizona State 121

ACC
Syracuse 66
Georgia Tech 76
Boston College 78
Wake Forest 80
Pittsburgh 118

BIG 12
Oklahoma State 47
West Virginia 68
Kansas State 69
Texas Tech 70
TCU 146

Charley Creme's Bracketology from 1/20/23 had the following conference projections. The bottom of the Big Ten shouldn't impact the top of the conference because the top teams had signiture non-conference wins; but the bottom would impact a team like Purdue which Creme lists in the next four out.

CONFERENCE TEAM
ACC 8
Pac-12 8
SEC 8
Big Ten 7
Big 12 6
Big East 5

75 Penn State
101 Minnesota
109 Northwestern
115 Wisconsin
164 Rutgers

Minnesota (101) beat Penn State (75) twice.
Minnesota (101) lost to Wisconsin (115) and Rutgers (164)
Northwestern (109) has defeated no one in the BIG10 (0-9)

I would put little to no stock in the NET. Low level P5 teams are rewarded inflated NET rankings by playing the higher level P5 teams in their conference. They don't need to win, just play the team. Northwestern is a perfect example, tough schedule with low NET opponents. They defeated none of them and still have a NET of 109.

Chicago State plays Northwestern on Wednesday. If Northwestern wins, will their NET get worse? Probably. It's not who you beat, It's who you play. Makes no sense.

I think we are just discussing the NET rating as an indicator of which power five teams will make the NCAA tourney. Yes, the NET is recent to WBB; but it sure appears a predictor of what power five teams make the tourney and probably what power five teams will host the first round.

In other words, a power five school with a NET in the forties is probably in the tourney and a power five school with a NET in the top 16 is probably hosting. Fairness isn't really the subject.
