Would rather get the extra year. But at the end of the day, it should be up to Bucko. If he would rather play special teams, so be it.

I highly doubt either one of them will look to transfer because of this. RB get banged up, we are a run heavy program, they have lots of eligibility left. They are going to get plenty of opportunities even with Mo back for one more year. Guys like Potts, Williams, if they are healthy and back might explore options but I will be very surprised if Ky or Bucko jump ship after this season.

Disagree. Guys who are pressed into action as true freshman, then redshirt later one all the time.

Williams in fact, did exactly that.

I highly doubt he redshirts. Most good rbs won’t stay four years anyways.

I doubt they came here expecting to be the workhorse as sophomores. Very small chance they would walk into that role at another P5 school if they left.

I get it, with the new rules it is easier to transfer. And for a player obsessed with playing time it might be an attractive option. But fans are way too quick to assume guys are going to transfer. There is a ton that goes into that decision.
 

LET'S GO!!! I understand what some are saying about the room being crowded, but no doubt Mo will have some bumps and after this year I think its fair to say we cannot have enough RB. Hopefully that OL can get rebuilt quick and we can continue to dominate the ground.
 

I know transfers are different now than just a few years ago, but if anyone can convince the young guys that it’s worth sticking around and waiting for your shot, it’s Mo.

Depends how bought into the culture they are. If they care about Mo - which I strongly believe they do - I think they would gladly have him take the lead (just like Mo did when Rodney and Shannon were back). Also, after this year, it would be hard to not think you'd be getting playing time as the #3 back.

Someone posted in another thread that a study showed about 65-70% of football players return to form after an achilles.

the history ain't great, especially among NFL RBs, but he does have youth on his side.

A good number of Achilles injuries happen to backs who were already nearing the end, and the tear finished them off.

Kevin Durant is probably the most successful athlete post-tear that I can think of. But he uses a lot different movements than a football RB.

I think people are assuming we are losing the entire OL, but may not be the case. While Big Dan, Olson and Schleuter are gone, I think older Ruschmeyer is likely back. Schmitz and Andries are gonna come down to draft feedback, but would not be shocked to see one or both back.

I also think Mo is the first domino to fall and we will see more announcements next week. I heavily believe CAB will be back (similar situation to Mo as far as NFL stock being sidetracked this year by injuries). And in what will likely be the most divisive topic this offseason, Morgan may very well return.

I’m fine with Tanner returning just for his leadership presence, but there needs to be a clear QB competition in the off-season.
 

Can't imagine needing anymore reason to root for a guy. Class act, team guy.

Last “great” year, we had Rodney, Shannon and Mo all taking regular snaps, plus some depth. Three plus some depth is a good formula for a long, grueling season … even if we decide to rediscover the passing game.

In order to keep the younger QBs happy, you'd have to think that would be necessary. That said, if Tanner comes back, I don't see how we wouldn't lose at least one of Annexstad and/or Clark. I think Kramer has a role now and is a Gopher to his core. Also, Athan and Knuth would be too young to be discouraged by a year learning.

Agree with your take here. Will be very interesting to see who elects to come back and who goes pro. Guessing there will be a lot of announcements after the games this weekend as guys declare their intentions for next season.

If Morgan is back it will definitely be a big debate around here. That combined with the OC spot.

Very curious how PJ would play the Tanner situation too? PJ seems like he is honest and direct. Would he say, "love to have you back, but there will be a competition with the guys who have been waiting"? Or would outright he promise Tanner the starting job if he decided to come back?

As much as he clearly loves Tanner and considers him family, I just can't see him doing the latter. Seems like that would go against the kind of drive for competition he always talks about wanting in his program.

Don't see them promising the job to Tanner but think it would take them seeing something really special in one of the other guys to unseat him from the starting job. They would need to believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that putting in Athan or someone else would lead to significant improvement on the field.
