MN won’t get fined for storming the field.

I think the SEC's policy is weird.

Gophers move out the band so there's no bottle neck for students, and open the stairs to let fans on the field.

That seems obviously much safer than creating this whole weird SEC dance where fans are supposed to not go on the field until the opposing team leaves .... that seems to set up a potentially dangerous situation where you incentivize the school to stop folks...

Storming the field after an upset is something I view as unique to college football (maybe it happens in the NFL, but I don't think so?).

It's stupid that the SEC fines schools for this.Glad the B1G has shown they won't do this.

As far as the safety angle, Slab is right, it's generally easy to know when there is potential for a field storm so just prepare for it. Open up stairs to the field, do things like moving the band (if applicable based on where they sit during games) to prevent dangerous bottlenecks and to protect the band and their instruments.

Basically, let it happen. Fans aren't going to be discouraged by their school getting fined, and there's not really much schools can do to prevent a field storm anyway that also adheres to safety requirements for the stadium anyway so finding them more and more isn't going to magically make them find a way to stop the fans.

Fining a school for the fans storming the field is stupid as the fans are not going to give a crap if the school has to pay a fine so it is not a deterrent of any kind.

The one key is making sure the opposing team/staff have a way to get off the field/court without being accosted/harassed/taunted by the home teams fans. As long as they can get clear or are protected in some way the rest is a non-issue. Setup a bubble of some kind for the opposing team and let the fans have their fun after the big win.

That’s pretty hard given there’s no way to predict where the last play occurs and fans storm the field immediately when the game ends. Don’t really love the whole storming the field, how common it’s become, etc but do ate it is something unique to college sports that add to the mystique of it all. Didn’t go down into the field this time as it really didn’t feel as impactful as say the PSU win (getting to .500 over a team with no historic rivalry just felt a little 🤷🏻‍♂️).

That said it does seem like something they need to address nationally and the answer isn’t just going to be to fine schools

You can pretty easily predict where the fans are going to come from and you also know what games have the potential for a field/court storming. For those games you have your security setup to form some sort of perimeter around the opposing teams bench area to give the players from the other team a way to get out of there. It isn't easy but with some planning it isn't impossible either.

Just glad we behaved ourselves. I think that's the key.

So the winner of the Alabama Georgia game should drop a road game to a bad program to get a nice check written to them to give to the players? Rich get richer.

Alabama still in the Hunt to win the SEC and got a nice check from Vanderbilt.

I've been to the field three times (Nebraska 2013, Penn State 2019, and Wisconsin 2021) and have been in the stadium for all 5 field stormings in Bank history. That is enough for me. I really enjoyed hanging out in our seats Saturday night and watching others get to the field after the big win. I doubt I'll ever go down there again in a field storming.

I used to think it should only be after a once in a lifetime style win. I've softened, I think it is happening at about the right frequency at the Bank. I'm glad they don't fine the schools like they do in the SEC.

Am I right on the number of field stormings? 5? Iowa 2010, Nebraska 2013, Penn State 2019, Wisconsin 2021, and USC 2024? I think the Metrodome GOPHER total was 0, right (yes I know the Iowa total was 1)?

Our stadium was built for storming with the visiting bench having easy access to exit. Not all stadiums are built this way. Some teams cross the field to get out which could be dangerous.

Even with the storming there were USC and MN players who met at center field to shake hands.

I did see one social media post of some punk kid stalking USC players after the storming, to yell BS at them. Disappointing, but predictable, unfortunately.

yeah it is sad that there are those fans that would rather taunt the other team as opposed to celebrate their own team. It is pathetic really.....

Go celebrate on the field just leave the other players alone, it shouldn't be that hard but we all know there are jerks out there that aren't wired to be decent human beings.
