MN vs. Neb Road Trip

We'll be in Omaha Thursday night. Three Omaha classics (not in the Old Market) are LaCasa pizza on Leavenworh, Gorats steak house, and Big Fred's.

Got my 4 tickets, 98th row, WOW!! Better bring binoculars. Am I in the last row of the stadium?

I thought that of mine when I got my tickets & they said row 84.....so at least I know there's more above me. HA!

I'll be going as well. Will be staying with family in Omaha. Not sure who I'm bringing yet, but will have a +1 for sure. Since I'll be in Omaha the night before, probably not going to do any 'Sota Socials or experiencing Lincoln Friday night (probably will be on the road anyway). But, I have all day Saturday, so will be just kicking back and enjoying the city for the day. I always try to make my football Saturdays an all day event when going to out of town games. That and I'm hoping to avoid the parking lot of I-80 from Lincoln to Omaha.

I'm excited!

The wife and I are heading down, trying to stay near the campus. I found the Embassy Suites and Cornhusker Hotel but they are getting a little spendy per night. Anyone have any suggestions?

There are not a lot of hotels downtown, another one to try but will also be spendy is the Holiday Inn downtown. Otherwise, I would try a hotel out by the airport or on or around North 27th/Superior Street. You can hop on the interstate from there and be downtown in a few minutes. I would also recommend reserving a parking spot downtown ahead of time for the day of the game as it will be good all day and is cheap. This can be done on the link below.

Yes, I'm 95% sure the 98th row is the last one in South Stadium. There might be a 99th row, but it definitely doesn't hit 100, so you're either in the last or 2nd to last row.

Nebraska was absolutely genius when they expanded their stadium a few years ago. They added a ton of seats to North Stadium, but didn't add any new entrances from the concourse to the stadium: http://www.midwestfieldturf.com/gallery/UN_Memorial_Field-ne.jpg the left picture of the shot is North Stadium. See all the new seats the top with no place to enter? It was already Kinnick-level crowded before they added all of the seats.

Well, because of that it takes about 30 minutes to get to your seats. I don't even know how it passed fire code, I can't stand sitting up there. I'll probably either ditch these seats or show up late.

So you are saying it might be wise to invest in one of those bladder things to limit the number of trips to the bathroom.

This will be my last road trip of the regular season making it 5 for 5 at away games. I never did this before and I'm really looking forward to my first game at Lincoln to complete my road warrior season. There will be 4 of us dressed in maroon and gold.

Go Gophers!

Nice, I got my tickets also ... and I'm in row 99!

Yeah I was just coming here to post this but I was wrong earlier, there are 99 rows in both the north and south parts of the stadium.
East and West Stadium have 47 rows in the lower bowl, although I wouldn't recommend buying anything in the last 5 or 6 rows, the balcony can get in the way of seeing the far side of the field when you stand up.

Can you tailgate in these spots? And it appears as if the lots, which are the red dots, you cannot purchase yet. Is that correct?

If you're driving back to the Twin Cities after the game, does it make sense to take Hwy 77 north and avoid Omaha?

Does anyone have any tips on tailgating? We'd like to do so for some of the pre game when we're in Lincoln. The spot that looks like the best possibility is around Haymarket Park to the West of the stadium. However, I've read contradictory information on-line about whether that is public/first come-first serve parking or if you need to be a donor.

Any information on this subject would be appreciated.

Let's see....bring a grill, hot dogs, lots of beer and a football.

You cannot tailgate in the ramps. You can purchase the parking spots now however, just go to event parking and choose the gopher game.

77 is a slow drive with all of the towns along the way. If you don't try and leave right after the game you will be OK on the interstate. It usually takes about 2 hours for the traffic to diminish on 80 to Omaha.

So ramps are a no-no for tailgating, but surface lots we should be good to go? I just want to make sure we will be able to tailgate and whatnot and not get an unpleasant surprise when we show up there...thanks for the help

Random question, will a portion of the band be headed to the game? I know there was an effort to raise funds to send some students to the game but haven't heard an update. It'd be pretty awesome if we were able to bring at least a pep band along.

If you want to tailgate in a lot, I would suggest the lots by Haymarket Park (baseball field) or the Indian Reservation (10th and Military). The rest of the lots where tailgating is allowed are all reserved for boosters or are private owned lots. Honestly, Nebraska is more known for hitting the bars before and after the games than tailgating in the parking lots.

Will be there with a group of 8-12. I can't wait for this weekend. I live in Omaha now and get down to a couple games a year and Lincoln is what college football is all about. Gopher fans should be treated well by the Nebraska fans and have a great experience.

I'm like 85% sure that there's a pep band going. I heard roughly 25 students and I'm pretty sure that's still the plan.

Band member told me they are sending a small group to Nebraska. Will be my 15th game there. Every CFB junkie should go to a game in Lincoln. Great fans who treat visitors well and
love to talk football. They already dislike the Badgers, so they are quick learners.

I think for most of the country that is an inheirited trait!

Will be heading to the game in my Maroon and Gold. Going to the game with my wife (who will be wearing red) and another couple (1 in red, 1 neutral).

Most likely going to hit the Embassy Suites early on that Saturday morning and hang out until the walk down to the stadium.
