Isn't this the kid that wanted nothing to do with MN when he verballed down there. I thought he said some stuff on Twitter too but I can't remember.

I thought I remember seeing a quote from him after he signed along the lines of feeling like the U didn't make him a priority and played second fiddle to other gopher DB targets.

I wonder where Brookins and Rucker would sit on the current depth chart had they stayed home. Neither has played much at all to this point. I can look at the Gopher DB two-deeps and don't see a place for either of them right now.

FYI, the Gophers ended up signing two DBs in that class: Myrick and McGhee.

I see that Rucker didn't play in the last 4 games for the Hawks in 2014.

I just found this old tweet:

Go Gophers!!

I could maybe see Brookins beat out Mghee since neither has played much but he would be the only one if at all.

His buddy Reggie Spearman, who took an OV to the U but ended up going to Iowa, also transferred after their bowl game. IMO not that surprising that Malik is leaving. If he transferred in the B1G he would have to sit out 2 years, so it's doubtful that will happen. He probably ends up at non-power 5 conference school as I don't think a lot of teams will be lining up for a guy that played in 6 games and had 3 tackles as a redshirt freshman....

Both are probably fine fellas, but neither one would see much of the field for the Gophers. Wish them the best as long as their team is thoroughly beaten by the Gophers (especially Bookins).

After seeing the development of our d-back crew.....as well as a d-back drafted in both of the previous two years.....Rucker has to be regretting the Iowa choice.

+1

Hard to tell. Rucker might have flourished under the tutelage of Sawvel.

I think we have to remember that Brookins has had a couple of injuries that have set him back some.

It took Kill a couple of years to get the in-state recruiting program to where it needs to be and given the damage done to in-state recruiting under previous coaching regimes, that's no surprise. One can't prove the negative, but my guess is if these guys were coming out of high school now, we would have probably gotten them.

Any word on where he's going?

Kinda what you get for willingly going to iowa. Might have room to fit ya in as a walk-on.
