In anticipation of the 2014 college football season, contributor Elliot Mann takes a look at a few players who we are excited to see take the field for the Maroon and Gold this year. Can Donovahn Jones give the run-heavy Gophers a true deep threat in 2014?

A true deep threat, a frisbie dog is a player who can take the top off the defense. The deep post, the go route, out and up. A player who can take a slant to the house. If you want a video look up Jerry Rice. But given you have that player, can you consistently hit him, in stride.

Isaiah Gentry is definitely a true deep threat. In fact his role may actually be limited as just as deep threat and nothing more. He didn't do a lot of anything else in his hudl film. Still a fantastic receiver though.

I saw a little glimpse of a Randy Moss in Gentry. He has effortless speed, and hands of Velcro.

But Dienhart said that Isaac Fruechte may be the fastest of them all.

Legitimately might be true. I have friend who played with him at RCTC and they said he was the fastest on the team. I always thought the speed didn't translate to the U because of his weight gain.

He was probably the fastest out of any WR that got major playing time the last two years(Jones, Wolitarsky, Engel, Crawford Tufts)

It does sound like Jones has successfully made the transition to WR and should be a very different player for us this year. That potential we saw should turn into production.
