MN Daily: U showing a lack of dedication to Title IX...problems have gone unresolved

Only an idiot would read the clear language of title IX and think that they should respond by creating quotas to equalize the numbers for men and women.

I recall a story when I was at the U about a decade ago. The AD was planning to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to remodel office space in the athletic complex so men's and women's sports would have the exact same square footage. Sounded really smart to me when my tuition was going up double digit % every year.

This piece was in the same issue as an Editorial entitled "Clitorally Speaking." I don't take it too seriously.

Boring off season time of year, so we need to talk about something. I suggest we start a conversation about the worst beer you ever drank.

I will start.

Blatz.....Just how old are you? Do you still own a station wagon with fake wood paneling?

Mine has real wood paneling. It has a 3 by the knee transmission, a six cylinder engine, burns leaded gas, uses ten thirty oil year around, and a floor board rusted thru and thank goodness for floor mats. I just do not drive it on gravel roads.

The color of the wagon is sun faded brown with a left front fender that is green. And it has an AM radio.

It's probably raked and has dice hanging from the rear view mirror.

Maybe even a continental kit and skirts.

Big white fuzzy dice with black dots. I won them at the County Fair. But no Jesus on the dash board. I'm Lutheran.

And an old Cherry Bomb for a muffler...Oh, the right rear passenger window has a bullet hole in it too.

Dr.Don - When you drive it, do you roll up your t-shirt and put your cigarette pack in the roll? I bet that duck tail hair cut also looks really cool. On second thought, you might not have enough hair left to have a duck tail.

Dr. Don, I like where you head's at.

I can't decide which was worse:

When I was 14, my buddies and I broke into an old boarded up building that used to be a bowling alley (in a town of 300). We loaded up about 30 Old Milwaukees and each had about 5 beers that night (warm). The beer was probably 6 or 7 years old and we were all puking that night (not from too much alcohol, but from drinking rotten beer).

When I was 16, a buddy and I drank from an old keg that we "bought" from an upper classmen. It was about half empty, several months old, and had been sitting outside all summer. I believe it was Busch Lite. I also puked that night.

My favorite line of the article: "In the first half of the current fiscal year, athletics spent $21.89 million on men’s sports but less than $9.96 million on women’s"

So, $9.95 million? Agenda much?

And of course there's the article's sub-heading which reads "Men’s teams get almost three times the money as women’s, raising equity concerns." $21.89 million is NOT close to three times $9.95 million. It's about $8 million away from three times as much and is far closer to two times as much.

That's what you call hack journalism. The content is tainted when there is that much bias on the part of the writer (and possibly the editor). In these type of articles, you immediately wonder about what information was purposefully left out, what quote was cut short, what interview was avoided, etc.
