MN Daily: Running back Edwards joins track team

MN Daily: Berkley Edwards brings his speed to the track

Plasencia and his staff had been holding Edwards out of the team’s first four meets before giving Edwards the green light to compete at the Iowa State Classic this weekend.

Edwards will be competing for the Gophers at the Big Ten Indoor Championships at the end of the month. Everything past that point is yet to be determined, however, as spring football will be starting March 3.

“When spring football comes up, [Berkley] will be with football for a period of time,” Plasencia said. “We have yet to answer every question surrounding his availability. He has to take care of football obligations and then come run for us.”

Go Gophers!!

Glad to hear football is still his top priority, hopefully it stays that way.

Berkley Edwards runs 6.78 in the 60m dash at the Big 10 indoor championships, and qualifies for the finals with the 4th fastest time, but only .01 away from the 2nd fastest time. Well done Berkley! Gotta find a way to get him the ball in space...kid can scoot!

This kid, with more maturity physically and mentally, is bound to be a real game breaker threat.

They don't need to use him all the time. They just need to bust him out when opponents least expect it.

For this to happen he'll need to be on the field during plays when he WON'T be getting the ball. Its pretty easy for a defense to key in on him if everytime he's on the field we throw him a receiver screen.

And he has to learn to not drop passes and be an effective blocker/decoy.
