Whats the deal with Missouri not getting any interest in expansion? Seems like they would be a perfect fit plus they have big time markets in St. Louis and Kansas City.

I'd say Kansas City is divided between Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, and Nebraska. St. Louis is divided by Nebraska, Missouri, and Illinois (and probably alot of Notre Dame). I'd say by adding Nebraska makes the addition of Missouri a moot point.

With the addition of Nebraska, the conference proved that brand name is extremely important in a potential expansion candidate. Missouri just doesn't have this national brand recognition.

The Kansas City Metro area has over 2 million plus people on both sides of the state line.
It has both rabid Kansas and Missouri fans. Missouri dominates the St. Louis market. Having lived in Kansas City, Missouri for 15 years Nebraska is about significant as the Gophers.

Having lived in St. Louis, I can tell you its a majority of Mizzou fans with a healthy chunk of Illini fans. Some ND fans scattered in, but I rarely met any Nebraska fans (there were a few). Mizzou still might not be as good of an option as others (this could be debated) but I don't think the Nebraska addition hurts them, aside from the fact there is one less spot.

Delany has treated misssouri like a cheap hooker, just to goad this all into action. Mizzou just woke up to find our commish left a fiver on the nightstand

Missouri doesn't have a national brand.

They haven't had any sustained success in football.

Their basketball program is just above average (and as we've seen from KU, basketball doesn't matter in this conversation.)

The school is rated significantly lower than Nebraska, which needs to bolster their academics to fit into the Big Ten.

Missouri is a good filler school to bring the conference to even numbers if we add a 13th, they're not solid enough to come by themselves.

Except St. Louis has a) as many pro teams as us and the same interest in them and b) about the same interest in Mizzou as the cities do in us.

The proof will be in the the number of cable systems in Missouri that add the Big Ten Network to the basic or first tier levels.

I am sure I missed this somewhere during these expansion rumors, but why isn't Kansas even being discussed (or was even being discussed) as an option? I can't imagine Mizzou being a better fit than KU. After all, KU brings a part of Kansas City (and St. Louis) and has a recognizable national brand in basketball.

This is about football, that's why. Also, I think they don't cut the mustard academically enough for the Big Ten presidents.

No, they don't. St. Louis has no NBA team.

No, they don't. Mizzou is a 90-minute drive from St. Louis. There is interest, but not like the Gophers get here. So, that tells you what kind of attention Mizzou traditionally gets in St. Louis...not a lot.

That said, Missouri very well could still be added to the league. If Notre Dame comes, I'm guessing Mizzou is the dance partner. I think the Big Ten promised the Big East if they got Notre Dame they wouldn't raid the marquee Big East teams, although Rutgers might be there for the taking.

Too bad they cant kick teams out of the B10 when they add some. But I can see the issues doing that...

I don´t see Mizzou as a fit. I don´t see expanding beyond 12 teams unless they can get a ¨wow¨ team like Texas or Notre Dame as the 13th team and would then want a 14th (Where Mizzou comes into play presumably?).

If that happened the Big-10 would be idiots not to look OUTSIDE the Midwest and expand their TV network into the deep South (Somewhere in Texas would make sense) or to the East coast (Pitt, Rutgers, Syracuse). I think Mizzou´s a distant 3rd or 4th on the list.
