Minny has beaten IA twice in TCF and each time the field has been rushed. To me, twice is tradition.

Nope not this time. This time we act like we expect it.
Honestly it's up to the students, but I think we save the field rush for the wisky or nebraska game should we triumph over those evils.

I agree. Unless it we win by some kind of crazy scenario or something as time runs out, I say no. Act like we expect it.

I say no as well. In the first two wins at TCF, the Gophers were big underdogs. Not this time.

Why would we rush the field after beating an unranked opponent? Complete jokes.

I would certainly hope not, but if a few groups of students decide to run onto the field, that would probably open the floodgates.

But if we hit 0:00 and the Gophers are victorious, I would hardly be upset with some unwarranted field-storming.

I think it should be a bi-annual, organized movement to the field to take pictures with Floyd, since he'll be staying home.

Yeah, If we're complaining about an unwarranted field rush after this game, I'm cool with that lol.

If the gophers win this game, the field is going to get rushed. Rushing the field isnt what it used to be.

The last 2 times we were big dogs in the middle of terrible seasons. This game is a push. Win the game like you are supposed to and stay in the stands.

I don't want us to rush the field. Rush the field if we beat Wisconsin.

My 8-year old was with me at both the previous field rushes (and came onto the field) and stated to me the other day that if the Gophers win this week, we get to rush the field. I explained to him that field rushing is for special occasions and next week's game likely wouldn't make that bar.

I agree with other posters that the Wisconsin game would be potentially an appropriate field rush. Last home game of the season, trophy game, maybe a bowl game or better bowl game on the line, and the end of the losing streak to the red menace.

I would honestly rather rush the field against a weak Iowa team than against an out of conference #1 team. I am big into the trophies, so I like the thought of the students going to celebrate the trophy with the team, hopefully getting a chance to touch it or get a picture of it. Some of us can remember a three year trophy drought, and getting a chance to celebrate with trophies with as much history and emotion as Floyd, the Jug, and the Axe can be something that doesn't happen often in a four year college career.

This is why I think it'd be acceptable for the students to rush the field on Saturday. It's a trophy game and if we win we bring back Floyd to Minnesota, and I believe the students should be a part of that.

I traditionally am against rushing the field for anything other than an upset of a highly ranked opponent, or beating someone you haven't beaten in a bazillion years. Of course Iowa doesn't qualify in either of those situations.

However, I have changed my stance on this in recent years to include Trophy games, regardless if we have won it for umpteen times in a row, the opponent is crappy, etc. The reason why I have changed my thinking is two-fold: 1: It is a way for fans to share in the excitement and be with the team up close... maybe even resulting in a story to tell about touching the trophy, years down the road. 2: I wonder if it would help students show up for a game if they knew they could share in the trophy victory after the game. We all know the student section could use a boost.

So I guess I am inventing a second qualifier for rushing the field. It would be nice if people partaking in the field rush understand the difference. To those of us older, rushing the field has traditionally meant some crappy team has pushed a monkey off its back, a monumental victory achievement has been made, or a long losing streak has been broken.

Rush the field, students, touch Floyd of Rosedale, and have the memory of a lifetime!!!

This thread shows the true state of MN football. Talking about rushing the field IF we beat Iowa.....Wow, thats good stuff.

Rush the field for beating a team that went 4-8 last year? The question shouldn't even be asked. It would be pathetic.

I think we should have a dedicated trophy game "stage" near the band. After every trophy game, those who have stormed the field (without getting roughed up by that D-Bag security guard a couple years ago) can head over to where the team has placed the trophy in a place of honor, and you get to rub it, touch it, get pics with it, etc. Maybe some of the players hang out there for pics too.

I would want this near the team tunnel, and I also want to have Bronko's Plow on display right there too for every game.

In the event that an opposing fan would try to reach this place of honor, security would be allowed to terminate with extreme prejudice.

AGREED! How pathetic would Bucky look for rushing the field after beating the crappy Gopher Teams we've had during the last 5+ years?

I'm currently a senior at the U and I agree with everything being said that we shouldn't rush the field because let's be honest, for all intents and purposes we should win this saturday. Rushing the field should be saved for that "signature win" that Coach Kill has been talking about needing to find this year (Wisconsin or Nebraska). If it doesn't happen this year, then it doesn't happen. The rarity and excitement of those kind of games makes jumping down over the rail that much more fun and memorable. HOWEVER, I have been in school for the last two wins in Minneapolis and honestly I find it very hard to believe that a (hopefully packed) student section, that has had fairly little to be excited about at The Bank besides these Iowa wins over the past three years, will be able to contain itself when the clock hits 0:00 and the team is charging across to Iowa's bench to reclaim Floyd.

I agree with most here in that rushing the field for just winning Saturday would too much. However, if they win in triple overtime on an interception returned for a touchdown, I say go ahead. ;)

I also like the idea of having a process for trophy games where the trophy gets shared with the students after the game. Let the students on the field in a more orderly fashion after the singing of Hail Minnesota for pictures, etc.

Students fine, the rest of us knuckleheads? No way. Just turn too the Iowa fan behind you and tell him I-35 waits and if you hurry you can hit the bullhead feed at the Clear Lake Legion.

Just looked. Wow, take away any "You're a homer", "Nobody else thinks like that", "You're dreaming if..""What is it with Gopherhole" posts and he's got..nothing. The guy hasn't had an original thought in a couple of years.

Golden? You need to get some non-whining material or just post on the "Off-Topic Board".

I might have to steal that one.

Keep your focus people! Some of you are way too:rolleyes: worried about Minnesota fans rushing the field when you should be worried about Iowa women rushing the men's bathroom.
