College Football News is predicting a 23-20 Minnesota win
Who did Wisconsin do well against on third downs? Rutgers, Purdue, Western Michigan, and South Dakota.

All wins, and those were the only four times the offense moved - and that’s not even right. There were problems against the Broncos and Coyotes early.

The Badgers are 5-0 when running for 171 yards or more, 0-6 when they don’t.

Iowa, USC. Those are the only two teams able to rumble on Minnesota for over 155.

College Football Network is picking Minnesota to win 23-19
I’m backing the Gophers in this one, backed by a steady dose of Taylor in the running game. If Max Brosmer can limit the mistakes at the quarterback position, I think the Gophers can grind out a close win.

It’ll be ugly, but that’s par for the course for the Battle for the Axe. Take the Gophers and sprinkle the under, as I think Wisconsin could be prone to mistakes and will struggle offensively.

Picks and Parlays takes Minnesota, 27-20
Minnesota will have a tough time on the road but the Golden Gophers will pick up a victory nonetheless when visiting Wisconsin on Friday. Minnesota has covered the number in six of the last seven, while Wisconsin has failed to cover the number in eight of the last 10 played in November. Minnesota's defense is allowing an average of only 18.5 points per game and Wisconsin will have a tough time moving the ball against the Golden Gophers.

Clutch Points is siding with Minnesota in the game.
Wisconsin has not played well lately, and that gives me some hesitation when it comes to betting on them. I do like what Minnesota has done this season, even with their tough losses. For that reason, I am going to take the Golden Gophers to win this game straight up.

I’m on Wisconsin here. I just think this is the world for Wisconsin who really have aspirations of making it to a bowl game. On the other side, I just wonder about motivation here for Minnesota.

I know it’s a rivalry/trophy game, but they just lost a heartbreaker to Penn State and have already got a bowl game locked up. Wisconsin just needs it more here and while normally that’s not enough for me for a bet, they have the talent to follow through and I think it does here. Give me Wisconsin.

They did well on third downs because they always failed on second down.
 



Both Milwaukee Journal Sentinel writers are picking Wisconsin
Mark Stewart has the Badgers winning 24-17
Wisconsin needs a win, and the good news is it's playing at home where, with the exception of the second half against Alabama, the team has shown up and been competitive. The Badgers are due for a win. I think the defense shows up and the offense does enough for the victory.

JD Radcliffe is picking Wisconsin, 30-21
I don't have a good handle on how the Badgers will respond to this game. I've seen a couple performances in which it's fair to ask if the team somewhat surrendered (Iowa, Nebraska) and a couple admirable showings against playoff teams (Penn State, Oregon). At least this game is played in the same venue as the latter games?

Is it enough that Paul Bunyan's Axe and a bowl streak are on the line in this game to draw out that extra level from a Badgers team that probably can't salvage a deeply disappointing season regardless of outcome? I lean toward yes, that the Badgers finally put together an impressive performance that gives Wisconsin something to build upon.

I wouldn't bet on it. All of our games but two against power conference teams have been one score games. Iowa beat us by a lot more and we beat Maryland by a lot more. I suppose we could get the final margin up to 10.

There's something to be said for this view. This is exactly the situation we were in when we broke Wisconsin's long winning streak in 2018. Except we were the visiting team.

Obviously I hope they don't rise to the occasion.
 

Simple: home game for Badgers; they need 6th win for bowl; they will want to bounce back from Nebraska loss.
 



The Star Tribune predicts a 24-20 Minnesota victory
Whichever team scores first will have a big advantage in this game, with the weather likely being a factor. The Gophers are 5-2 when scoring first this season but 1-3 when the opponent scores first. \

A fast start with Brosmer finding wideouts Daniel Jackson and Elijah Spencer in intermediate routes should open things up for the running game. Punter Mark Crawford will be key for field position purposes, and kicker Dragan Kesich could be a difference-maker with his big left leg.

My expectation: Expect a tight game because that’s what the Gophers play this season no matter the opponent. Wisconsin has desperation on its side, but the Gophers bring the slightly better team.

Wisconsin Defense: With the Penn State loss, Minnesota technically fell to 5-1 when rushing over 100 yards this season, but 2.9 yards per rush last Saturday shows they didn’t have all that much success last week. Wisconsin, however, is allowing 163 yards per game on the ground. Edge: Gophers

Prediction: Minnesota appears to have an advantage in all three phases of the game, but the betting line suggests the rivalry will be extremely close. The U expects that to be as well. It’s hard to know what Wisconsin team will show up: the team that pushed No. 1 Oregon in a 16-13 home loss or the squad that got blown out at Nebraska 44-25 a week ago. It’s more likely the latter.

The Daily Gopher (SB Nation) is picking Minnesota to win 27-20
Make no mistake, the Gophers are going to get the Badgers’ best shot. Not only is this a rivalry game, but it’ll be Senior Day at Camp Randall and Wisconsin is fighting to extend a 22-year bowl game streak. Throw both team’s records out the window. This is going to be a fight. But it’s a fight I expect the Gophers to win. The Axe is coming home.

Gopher Illustrated (247 Sports) has Minnesota winning 20-16
It's a coin-flip game. If you think Wisconsin takes it at home, as they've played much better in Camp Randall, I get that. If you believe that a motivated Minnesota team is able to get up early on a beaten-down Badger club, sure. That makes sense.

I'll say this game is the same as every other one: It's a one-score game into the fourth quarter. But a late Daniel Jackson touchdown puts Minnesota up, and Koi Perich seals it. Wisconsin's bowl streak is snapped.

Covers is predicting a Minnesota win
Minnesota has enough playmakers — namely running back Darius Taylor and receiver Daniel Jackson — to find success at some point against a decent but far from great Badgers defense, and just some success will be enough to end the third-longest bowl streak in the country, Wisconsin failing to win six games for the first time in 24 years (2020 aside, when a 4-3 record was enough to make a bowl game).

PickWise is siding with Minnesota in the game
Minnesota has been the better team this season between these two programs. Minnesota has been good all season and if a couple of their games against top teams went slightly differently, they would be a great team.

Minnesota gave Penn State everything they had last week in a 26-25 defeat. Max Brosmer continued to show that he is the best quarterback the Gophers have had since they went 11-2 in 2019.

Braedyn Locke has been prone to interceptions this season throwing a total of 10. The Gophers defensive back, Koi Perich, is the Big Ten’s current leader in interceptions with 5 takeaways. This will be a cold rivalry in Madison, and I like the chances the Gophers have to send their rivals to an early offseason.
