Minnesota visitors guide?

Nebraska fan here...

My fam/friends are trying to start a tradition of going to a different away game every year to try and see all of the B10 stadiums(I know... we are a few years late getting started). Due to proximity and recent competitiveness(you guys seem to have our number), we have decided on visiting the Gophers this year.

Looking for any suggestions on what to do/where to stay in the Minneapolis metro. Was hoping someone might have access to a visitor's guide similar to one that I see posted on the Neb Rivals forums for opposing fans visiting Lincoln.

I would stay downtown and take advantage of the many tap houses and restaurants. It is just a short 15 minute train ride to the stadium. You wont have to rent a car because if you want to see a little of the area, you can ride the train to downtown from the airport which is about 40 minutes.
 

Thanks for the reply! We were kinda leaning towards staying downtown after seeing that the train(Green Line?) takes you pretty close to the stadium. Any suggestions on specific places to visit and is there anything you suggest we do/see on campus?

Need to know more about the crew you're bringing. Are you looking for food options? Wide range of ages? Hitting the town late into the night (kids, boozers, foodies)? Early in the year/late? What game specifically. etc. etc. etc.
 

Good point... Should be a mostly early 30's/late 20's crowd. Definitely still like to party it up(boozers). We will leave early Friday morning and drive up, so would like to have some good options for food that evening. We will likely head down to the stadium early Saturday morning and would like to walk around/tailgate. In the event that doesn't work out... Is there a bar district near campus that we could do some bar hopping? Thanks again for the help!

Ahh...missed that. Hell, I'll help out a Nebraska fan. My wife grew up in Lincoln. We won't be watching these game together ever again. Last year was tough on her.
 

For food are you looking for something really trendy/award-worthy? Or are you just looking for average-Joe kind of food?

If you do stay downtown, there is the Fulton Brewery that is just a couple blocks northwest of Target Field (also very close to the Target Field train station). They have different food trucks parked there on different nights (I think their website lists them).

The downtown bars tend to be more for the younger crowd. The bars in northeast Minneapolis (just a few minute drive from downton, but not on the rail line) are going to fit your ages better. Some good ones in northeast are Nye's, the Bulldog, Gasthof zur Gemutichkeit, Psycho Suzie's, and Tony Jaros.

There are a few bars around campus - Sally's (newly remodeled), Stub and Herb's are both in the Stadium Village area (about 2 or 3 blocks south of the stadium). Blarney and the Library are in Dinkytown, a few blocks west of the stadium.

Last thing to iron out is if/what there is to do around campus? Like I mentioned, we hope to tailgate and just hop around to make new friends, but would like a fallback in case it doesn't work out.

There's also the Surly brewery about 5 blocks east of the stadium if you're looking for something to do near campus.

As you probably know, our campus is pretty urban. You're not far from downtown which has tons to do. You should check out the Stone Arch Bridge for a nice view of downtown and the St. Anthony Falls. There's also some nice views of downtown as you get closer to the river on campus. Not really super close to campus but Minnehaha falls is a Minneapolis landmark and should still have some fall color for the Nebraska game.

The Vikings play the Chiefs at TCF bank stadium on Oct. 18 if you're looking for more football and a wilder crowd.
