Minnesota ranked as the 7th best job opening

If Georgia fires Richt, that becomes the best job available. Maryland is a better job than Minnesota. Better financial support, facilities farther along, better recruiting area, and better weather.

Georgia's not a better job than USC.

Maybe. I think they are close. Georgia has better facilities, better fan support, play in a better conference and are in the more winnable side of the conference.

UCF is a potential gold mine job. The school is huge(60k enrollment), new on campus stadium, and smack in the middle of the recruiting Mecca. That school will be on the short list if/when the ACC or SEC expands.

Probably, but it’s closer than you think. College football fans don't recognize the absurd amount of talent that comes out of Georgia every year. There’s a reason we’re going in there more and more. The right coach should put Georgia in a conversation for at least the SEC title game almost every year, especially considering they’re in the weaker SEC East. That program has been an underachiever lately with Richt.

This article shows what I’m talking about: States with the best college football recruiting situations

Texas and Florida are 1 and 2, but Georgia is just behind California, and the state only has two Power 5 schools. So I agree that USC is the more storied program, but Georgia has all kinds of potential. It has the recruiting base, the support, the facilities and would probably throw more money at a candidate than USC. I think a lot of coaches would view choosing one over the other as a toss-up.

You make 2 especially really good points.

-Playing in the SEC East basically means you basically just have to win 2 games to make the playoff every year (beat florida, win the SEC title game).
-The second is with the talent in that state, they're really the only ones competing for it. (Georgia Tech isn't real competition)

Miami is the most overrated job in history. Terrible facilities, small fanbase, and expectations are through the roof. It's basically an unwinnable job for just about everyone. Anything short of a national title is abject failure, and if you win one (see Larry Coker), you'd better follow that up shortly with your 2nd or you're out on your ass.

Not sure why anyone in their right mine would want to go there and coach.

Maryland is getting new facilities too and they are ahead of us on that front. Better in-state and surrounding talent too.

Penn State and Va Tech take away whatever recruiting advantage Maryland might otherwise have in their backyard. Further, Maryland was never a particularly strong football program, and now they're looking wayyyy up at the top 4 teams in the B1G East. No way that's a happy job at this point in time, other than the $ payout.

It's really easy.
If you find the longest HC tenure at least partially-captured within the last 30 years for each program, you can sort your list accordingly and it will be 100% accurate in reflecting the best HC jobs.

Personally, I'd rank them: 1) USC, 2) South Carolina, 3) Miami, 4) Virginia Tech, 5) Minnesota, 6) Maryland, 7) Illinois, 8) UCF , 9) North Texas, 10) Hawaii. Although, who wouldn't want to live and work in Hawaii?

Agreed. 6 & 7 might be ahead of U of M in terms of long run potential, but not today. I think most coaches want an opportunity to be successful fast.

Great map. Makes me wonder if there's an opportunity to enrich the HS talent in MN (see WI on the map). Was it always that way or does UW's current run have something to do with it?

There's been talk of UCF to the Big 12.

Penn State and Virginia Tech are about the same distance from Maryland as Iowa and Wisconsin are from Minnesota. With far more talent on the east coast than in the Upper Midwest.
