Minnesota player of the year

Mark Landsberger

The kid from Melrose is the best I've seen.

I like Tyus a lot. Different positions but another guy who was beast in high school and had some good years with the Lakers was Mark Landsberger from Moundsview. He was relentless on the boards and attacking the basket. You got sick of that...he could shoot.

Barry Wohler...how far behind Tyus was he?

Again, I like Tyus but Khalid was uniquely outstanding! National title at UConn too.

Barry Wohler was not even on the same planet as Tyus. He was not a national recruit by a long shot. He was a great all around athlete but has no business in the same conversation as Jones or El-Amin.

The cool thing...

we all get to have our own opinions on here. National recruiting was a totally different landscape in the 70's and 80's. AAU basketball didn't exist in Minnesota. There was no opportunity for exposure.
And comparison was therefore a lot harder.

You are correct, Barry Wohler concentrated on three sports. He didn't just play basketball. It was a part time sport for him. I believe this discussion is Minnesota high school basketball player of the year. I'll trust my own evaluation and disagree with you. Barry Wohler was a very special high school basketball player and athlete. He didn't choose to specialize going forward. That doesn't diminish how good he was as a high school basketball player. We'll see if Tyus wins his second state title. Apple Valley beat Hopkins without an injured Tyus. Bird Island-Lake Lillian would not have beaten you and me in our present athletic fitness condition and three guys from the parking lot, without Barry Wohler. Tyus is good. He has enormous hype. Barry Wohler could hoop too.
