Apparently NBC execs were unfazed by the Gopher performances against Michigan (prime time) & Purdue on their network in 2023 to give them another shot.
 



The Minnesota-Iowa games recently have been low scoring, but they have been good games.

It depends on what you like.

I like smash-mouth football, especially when the score is close and blocking and tackling fundamentals are crucial.

Other folks like video game football... basketball on grass.

To each his own.

I can't imagine the Michigan & Purdue contests garnered boffo ratings, especially in the 2nd half, but certainly there was potential for a decent amount of eyeballs early.

I like smash-mouth defensive football as well, but I would hardly call last year's game a result of that compared to sub-par offensive & QB play.
 

Pig game in primetime is great! I would hope all of our rivalry games should garner that kind of attention.
 



Does NBC get first dibs each week for their game? The word "preferred" in the tweet is making me think this is not 100% locked in, but I don't know how the network distribution process works.
 

The storyline:

Fleck got his first win against Iowa now back for revenge with a new offensive coordinator. But the Gophers boast a new passing attack and premier running back Darius Taylor. Iowa again crybabies.

The advertisers loved the half-hearted fair catches and want more. :LOL:

It all depends on your perspective. Is it good defense, or is it bad offense? Iowa was certainly a struggling offensive team all of last year. And Minnesota got sub-par QB play most of last season.

But the Gophers did what they had to do to win a big game against a rival that had a long winning streak against them. That, in and of itself, made the game memorable — and enjoyable — to me, and I think to many of the true college football fans out there as well. The Gophers won the game by playing the way they needed to play, all things considered.

In college football, rivalry games aren't usually about aesthetics. They're about history.
