Minnesota Gophers AP Poll 11/19/96

Another player who had that "it" factor, at least for 1 season, was Vincent Greer. He dragged a pretty mediocre team into the Tournament. For a kid who wasn't a great shooter and didn't have a right hand he could score the basketball.

1st in scoring (by a WIDE margin)
2nd in rebounding
1st in steals
2nd in assists

I agree.

Mark Olberding is the best Gopher freshman I have ever seen. Bobby Jackson the best ever.

Big difference in coaching. Tubby is a much better coach than Clem ever was.

But Clem's assistant coaching staff had it all over Tubby's island of misfit toys coaching staff.

I know he only played 2 years (one injury prone) and I know he had help from Jan G. but even so he was one of the best Gophers ever. Thompson and McHale had better pro careers but Bobby led us to the promised land.

How would you rank Thompson, Hudson, McHale and Jackson

1. Thompson
2. Jackson
3. Hudson
4. Mchale

That Thompson and McHale team was 24-3 and ranked 2nd or 3rd in the country but was not allowed to play in the post season. That was the best Gopher team (1976-77) that I have ever seen play. 2nd best was twenty years later 1996-97. Third best 1981-82, fourth best 1989-90.
