Mike Reilly of the top-ranked Minnesota men’s hockey program currently leads all Big Ten defensemen in goals, assists and points and has now been named the league’s Third Star of the Week after tallying four assists at Ohio State.

One of three Reilly brothers on Minnesota’s roster, the defenseman captured his first Big Ten weekly honor after setting a career high with three assists in Friday’s 5-1 win over the Buckeyes and then adding a fourth helper on Saturday. Reilly’s eight goals, 20 assists and 28 points this season are all career highs for the sophomore from Chanhassen, Minn. The defenseman ranks among the top seven nationally in all three categories.

Reilly and the Gophers defense have allowed an NCAA-low 64 goals this season while the program also ranks first in the nation in goals allowed per game at 1.88.

Minnesota has now earned a total of 21 weekly Big Ten honors from 10 different players this season.

The No. 1 Gophers return to action this weekend at No. 13 Michigan in the final regular-season series of the 2013-14 season. Friday’s series opener is set for 5:30 p.m. CT on ESPNews/Watch ESPN while Saturday’s finale is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. CT on the Big Ten Network/BTN2Go.com.
