If you want a guy to bring a program back to 10-11 win potential, this is the guy.

I think he is a good candidate. So what if he put some former athletes mouthy kid in a equipment shed...he deserved it from those in the know.

I think Leach is the guy to change this program. He is a proven coach so he would bring instant credibility to the program and with his strong personality he would be able to land some big time recruits. I just think that the admin. would be afraid of him because Leach is very unorthodox. He is a bit of a loose canon, which I think the players love, but not the panty waists signing his paycheck.

minus 1 from me.

He had annual flirtations with other teams during his entire tenure at Lubbock.
The administration could not wait to get rid of him and they were fortunate enough for him to give them an excuse to do so by locking a player in a storage closet.

No thanks.

I disagree. It came down to money. The admin. did not want to pay him so Leach was leveraging his success and threatening to leave the program. However, the admin. knew if they let Leach go the deep pocket alumns would have went ballistic. So the admin. begrudgingly gave him the money he wanted. Leach was only using his success as leverage for a pay raise. Tell me what person, much less a fb head coach, would not do the same thing. When Leach was fired there were a lot of pissed off alum. Believe me, there were a lot of people who were against firing Leach.

Wait until TT is playing with Tuberville's recruits. Let's see how good they are and how much the people of TT will be happy Leach is gone.

Exactly. Go look at a Tech message board. You think the Masonites around here are pesky? The Leach-people think that the six or seven Tuberville-ites are annoying..... AND THEIR COACH IS TUBERVILLE!!

Any good coach gets flirted with by other bigger (deeper checkbook) programs. There was alot about $$$ behind the scenes, and much not so behind. He was due $5 million as a bonus if he wasnt gone by the end of the year. The shed issue was a convenient way to let him go. Not uncommon to have some ego issues between head coach and 'ownership' when unprecedented success comes around. See Dallas.

Bruininks already said no.

He never said no to Leach, but he did say that he was concerned about his background. You have to read his quotes a lot closer than that otherwise people will think that you are purposely trying to mislead them.

I never saw any quote where he talked specifically about Leach. Did he?

Leach would excite me a great deal and I think it would be fun to listen to him put Sid in his place. Still, I worry about how the James incident, whatever the true story was, having a negative impact on recruiting.

Im not sold on Leach...but want him to be part of our interview process.

So often, people forget that there are many egos in a University setting...Presidents, Regents, Alumni and Athletic Directors all have egos...it is the nature of reaching their level of success in thier particular fields...I think Leach was over the top and made too many enemys and thought he was untouchable and paid for it with his job...I hope he learned his lesson.

That said...the shed thing was blown WAY out of proportion...he wasn't LOCKed in a shed and could have went inside or left at any point...he was complaining about dehydration and heat related issues and was gotten out of the sun and given fluids. The kid told everyone he hated Leach and was not performing well on the field...so his story has its own angle...just like all stories.

Leach was fired so the TT could save millions in bonus money and the President and AD could assert their control (see ego)...ultimately if Tuberville doesn't win...the Pres and Ad will be the next to get fired...u can be sure of that.

I want to see if Leach has found some humility to go with his FB IQ...interview the guy...and if he has...hire him to an incentive laden 5 year deal with an easy out for the U if he is the same asshole here that he was at TT...but if he wins...he gets paid...just my thoughts.

A lot of coaches have questionable backgrounds. Ron Washington abused the Peruvian marching powder. Sean Payton's an arrogant prick. Bobby Knight's bat-bleep crazy. Nice guys finish last and all of those past transgressions are easily forgotten with wins.

The Gopher football program has so much deeply embedded crap associated with it that it looks like Elvis' colon, circa 1977. There is one man looking for a job right now that is qualified to give this program the enema it needs and that's Mike Leach.

There are two reasons for wanting Leach:
1. He's a proven Winner and gets it done
2. He would put Reusse in his place

Great point. I would love to see Leach go after Reusse. He would eat Reusse's lunch (no pun intended).

3. He scares the sh!t out of "fat little girlfriends" of players.

That alone gives him the nod from me...

I'm convinced he'd be a big winner here.

Funny how the president of the U wants an established coach, and one with a good track record.

Well, Leach is a proven winning coach, and had the best graduation rate of any FBS team in the U.S.

The firing was an inside job, and as I said before Tuberville was calling private high schools 2 months prior to the firing to discuss admissions for his kids in the spring.

I'm officially on the Leach band- Well, pirate ship. I'm almost 98% positive the U wont' hire him (pansy ninny-muggins that they are), but that won't stop me from having this pipe dream.

I dunno. He gave up 41 points to the 2006 Gophers with a defense full of Texas recruits.

The pirate ship has a glass cannon.

That 2006 Gophers offense ROCKED and they scored a lot of points that year. Leach's team ALSO came from behind and won the game -- he would get my vote too but I agree with the other poster that the administration doesn't have the guts to do it.

The pirate ship won over 8 games a year for 9 years straight and brought TT to #2 in the nation. I would be thrilled if we got him. Definitely in my top 4.

Yeah, but our offense those years were burying teams (haven't seen us blow a team out since Mase..).

I'm not a fan of Leach for the U. I don't think the Air Raid will work in the Big Ten and without Texas as home state recruiting I don't think he'll get the athletes he needs for it to work. Plus his defenses have always been a liability. I would personally love to see us hire Venables and bring a defense first mindset to the team. Not sure he would take the job though.

A. He ran the Air Raid largely without great athletes.

B. Hasn't Brewster proven that you can recruit quality athletes at the wide receiver position from out of state?

C. Hasn't the state of Minnesota been producing a bunch of quality receivers lately?

They thought Tim Brewster had to be the one too.

I don't remember anyone thinking it. I know some people here HOPED it...

Leach is a far superior commodity and has an actual track record in coaching unlike the previous guy. He's no guarantee although no one unemployed is.
