per the STrib:
An associate athletic director at the University of Minnesota is on leave pending an investigation into five complaints against him in the wake of Athletic Director Norwood Teague’s resignation.
The U confirmed Wednesday that Teague’s hand-picked assistant, Mike Ellis, has “voluntarily” agreed to take leave from his job as outside lawyers the U hired to investigate sexual harassment and discrimination issues — “or other appropriate authority” — look into five anonymous complaints against Ellis received since Teague resigned in August. The U says that Ellis is cooperating in the investigation.
The U said that a prior complaint about Ellis, filed in January 2013 and investigated by the university’s human relations department, was closed without any disciplinary actions. State law restricts the release of further information about the complaints, a spokesman said.
Ellis did not respond to requests for comment. His wife, Terri Ellis, said Wednesday that reporters “don’t need to know” about his status with the U.
Teague and Ellis worked closely together in the athletics department at Virginia Commonwealth University. VCU basketball coach Beth Cunningham filed a Title IX sexual discrimination complaint against the school shortly before Teague left his job as athletics director there to run the U’s athletics department. VCU paid Cunningham $125,000 in July 2012 to settle the complaint — a month after Teague’s first day on the job at the U.
