Their linebackers coach is John Butler....

He has been our special teams coach and linebackers coach, and was at Harvard before being here. He turned Lee Campbell (DE) into a decent Big 10 linebacker, and has our special teams much improved over the Mason days.

What is wrong with him?

I'd like to see Cooper at SS, he has the speed and would be awesome if he didn't get too big.

He was already given a shot at safety.

When was he given this shot? I'm still kind of hoping Cooper turns into a safety although I think he'll be a heck of a linebacker as well. I just think he could dominate at safety and we would then be very strong there for years to come...

SS would be a complete waste of his talents. Instead of Making plays in the middle of the field or near the point of attack, you are moving him further back in the secondary (except when you would blitz him) I would rather have him closer to the line blowing plays up when or before they happen rather than tackling someone down field after they have gotten a good chunk of yards already (ala John Pawelski). Cooper was a safety in High School and we redshirted him in order to have him bulk up for Linebacker. If he was going to play safety he would have started his Freshman year.

Cooper will play Linebacker - there is no question to that.

The other (inside) backers will be Spencer Gary Tinsley, Spencer Reeves, and Mike Rallis. They'll rotate these three until they find 2 that can continuously make plays.
