Michigan State's new uniforms

I like the dont tread on me theme with Navy but Michigan State needs to stick to their own colors, I dont know why they would want to wear Notre Dames colors especially while playing them.

They're breaking them out for the Michigan game, not this week.

Yeah these one's are completely different than last years. They went for the modern look this time. You can check with that link I posted.
Correct, but they are still honoring the 1961 championship team. :)

I was told a few days ago from a buddy of mine at MSU that the gold was used to represent the bronze armor that the Spartans used to use in battle

That's the idea. And Nike and MSU are saying it is a bronze color not gold (not sure how they got that but still).

I'm assuming there's not a Penn State version of these monstrosities.

Yea, I think PSU fans would collectively s**t themselves before rioting with Zombie Paterno leading the change to kill Phil Knight.

I heard the bronze is supposed to relate to the bronze armor of the original Spartans.

Saying the Gophers have tradition is like saying Prussia has a tradition of great armies.

Actually, it isn't like that at all. Prussia hasn't existed de facto for 140 years, and de jure for 64 years. Minnesota is still here, and still has fans who remember its heritage. Anyone who was alive when Prussia was great has been dead for a century or more.

Yes, that is correct. But I think I made my point.

LSU's pro combat jerseys are sweet, by the way.

... There comes a time when tradition and history need to change to go along with what the rest of the landscape is doing, and judging by the lack of recent history from the Big Ten it's about time for a change. I guarantee you that once one school starts with the more modern look that the rest of the teams will start to follow suit. Team's like Minnesota and Indiana are going to need to start doing anything that we can in order to start getting noticed by the new generation of kids.

Jersey's are important to the younger people and that's a fact. The older fan base just doesn't understand that. How on earth do you think Oregon started getting better and better? about ten years ago they started having unique jerseys and it gave them publicity.

That's more or less the point I'm trying to make. Oregon was UNIQUE. Boise was UNIQUE. They had no brand nationally, so they created one.
The more teams that follow suit, the less the new generation of kids notice, and the less value it has. That's on top of the fact that, regardless of how the teams have performed on the field, the B1G already has a strong brand that gets noticed, and it happens to be on the other side of the spectrum from the brand that teams like Oregon have created for themselves.

I get that it's happening, and that everyone's doing it, but I would hope, personally, that we hold back as much as possible. It's a matter of personal taste as much as anything, but there it is.
I also personally suspect that if the B1G ever gets back to dominance, it will be in large part because our tradition/history becomes a valuable brand asset in a world where everyone else wears garish nike billboards.
