Michigan pausing all team activities

We're beating a dead horse with this Covid crap.

All remaining games should be transitioned to Punt, Pass and Kick competitions.

Michigan canceling the Ohio State game to hose the Buckeyes (and avoid the embarrassing defeat that puts the final nail in the Khaki Coffin) is going to be the most predictable drama since Titanic.

Can you imagine the anger coming from OSU if Michigan cancelling is the thing that keeps them out of the Big Ten title game and the CFP? They would go ballistic.

Ohio state is going to end up canceling this week anyways

And Kevin Warren was right all along.

Warren was right, but I also think it was worth giving it a shot in 2020. Hopefully the 2021 Big 10 season will resemble something normal.

I think it will, but spring ball will be vastly different. Can't stop the Covid movement on a dime.

Do the playoffs or championships really mean anything this year? I think this year is a bust and there cannot be a #1.

The only thing that might matter is a national championship

even when BYU won the National title in a strange year in the 80s you can’t take that away from them

Just let Indiana play Iowa State for the national championship this year and call it good.

This year I think only undefeated teams should play it out and have an undefeated champion. They will have navigated the pandemic the best. Big Ten and Pac 12 should not be considered due to lack of games.

Alabama 8-0
Notre Dame 9-0
Cincinnati 8-0
BYU 9-0
Coastal Carolina 9-0
Marshall 7-0

If all 6 are undefeated, top 4 to playoffs and 5-6 play in a Bowl.

How crazy would it be if OSU doesn't play the next three weeks, but the CFP still picks them for the top 4??? Almost seems impossible.

If CFP is two ACC teams (Clemson and ND) and SEC teams (Alabama and Texas A&M), I won't watch a single G-D second. Not a single second. F you ESPN, and F your advertisers!

ESPN owns the CFP and all the major bowls, and is partners with the SEC and the ACC.

They'll find a way to get Texas A&M in the CFP.

The would say Texas A&M is probably in unless Florida beats Alabama.

If florida beats Alabama and notre dame beats Clemson it is possible the playoff is 3 SEC and 1 ACC

I certainly wouldn’t give Kevin Warren credit. He cost the B1G 30+ million dollars this year. If anything he should be at the head of the unemployment line.

For sure.
Usually conference commissioners lose their jobs for doing exactly as their bosses wanted
Not to mention failing to overthrow the state and local governments which put in place restrictions or prohibitions on in-person attendance at sporting events.

Memories apparently are pretty short around here. I seem to remember most people on Warren’s side claiming we shouldn’t be “blaming” him, as the decision was made above his head, by the presidents. Now that they have to shut it down, he gets to claim credit? Ok.

Look at the calendar. This past weekend would have been the end of the regular season. Instead of dragging their feet and waffling, they could have started on time or a week early and gotten almost all the games in. Most people knew it was only going to get worse during cold/flu season, but somehow people (including presidents/Warren, depending on if you’re blaming or praising), thought it was a good idea to try to do it during cold/flu season. Yes, let’s heap praise his way- seems justified.

IMHO, the B1G played FB this fall for 2 reasons:
1. give Ohio State a shot at making the CFP playoffs (with resulting payday for the conference)
and
2. make the crying Nebraska fans and coaches shut the f*ck up. (and end any threats of legal action)

that's it. that is why the B1G is playing.

Yes, if they had started on the original revised schedule maybe most or some of this late season debacle could have been avoided, games rescheduled, post-season saved. The original decision to cancel was remarkable for being heavily influenced by some really poor German studies published in late July with one later heavily edited and partly retracted for numerous statistical errors (but still shot through with holes and questionable conclusions) and the infamous Ohio State study suggesting high rates of MRI markers that may or may not have any clinical significance. That took awhile to work through...

Hindsight is always 20/20, but this was a case where less may have been more in terms of waiting on solid science-based findings and advice by the Big Ten. The economic ramifications will be heavy.

The conference isn't allowing fans even when state and local governments are. Wouldn't have made much of a difference here with a limit of 1500 but I know Indiana and Ohio are both allowing around 12k fans per game. Purdue and Ohio State could legally host fans but the Big Ten won't let them.

They played for $$$ Yet they still want to pretend these are student athletes when it's convenient for them.

Are you suggesting they didn’t/don’t want to play?

We could go off on a tangent but we’ve already seen some sports get plowed under - $$$ is pretty important to an athletic department. Sure, the current revenue model is gross and the conferences could broadly institute an even more socialistic model/plow more proceeds back into the general fund/institute more revenue sharing and salary capps but I don’t see that happening nytime soon. Plenty of intrigue coming down the pike with NLI anyway, in conjunction with Covid revenue shocks. Hold on to your hats.

And Kevin Warren was right all along.

He was incredibly wrong to delay the season this much.
Instead of raking leaves in September he chose for the B1G to shovel snow during a blizzard in November.. a month notorious for other viral outbreaks every single normal year, then enter covid.
Include his ridiculous 21 day ban... stick with a 10 day self isolation like the rest of the world and all is well.
