Michigan Leaving the Big Ten?

Michigan won't miss Harbaugh on the sidelines much at all. It's a slap on the wrist using a single figurehead for deep, nefarious cheating across at least 3 seasons.

If his program is at all prepared they should be able to operate without missing a beat on game day, even against Ohio State and Penn State. They already have experience with his suspensions.

They will miss the stolen signs far more than his khakis gracing the sideline. They didn't have much luck at all against Ohio State until the cheating started.

Notre Dame and NBC certainly have things figured out?

Why wouldn't NBC, who already pays for Big Ten content now, not be agreeable to just sliding Michigan football in as another partner?

Non-football to ACC.

It's not going to happen, so don't get your panties in a bunch.

Here's the actual SI article link (and it's actually an SI article! Not "fannation")

Big Ten Botched Michigan, Jim Harbaugh Punishment With Clumsy Investigation

Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti made a hasty decision to suspend Harbaugh from the sideline for the rest of the regular season. It’s a move that the Wolverines won’t soon forget.

Tony Petitti has no idea how badly he just botched his job, but here is a hint: In a meeting last week, Michigan’s regents discussed possibly leaving the Big Ten if Petitti suspended coach Jim Harbaugh without what the school considered due process, a person familiar with those discussions told Sports Illustrated.

That may sound like an empty threat, but the fact it was even discussed should tell you how angry Michigan is right now about how Petitti has handled this. The process that led to Harbaugh’s three-game suspension was a clumsy execution of mob justice, and it is by no means over. Michigan is expected to take the Big Ten to court Friday night to try to allow Harbaugh to coach Saturday. (A Michigan spokesperson declined to comment publicly Friday night.)

Are they actually going to leave the conference soon?

No.

But try this on for size and see how it tastes:

X years from now, a vote comes up of whether the top ___ CFB teams should leave their conferences and form a "super league", leaving everyone else in the dust.

Michigan is the deciding vote.

Think about it. Good move Petitti. You just "Kliavkoff" 'ed it ....

The real underlying story here is the once proud and reputable Sports Illustrated prostituting its name to local and regional click bait tabloidesque sites that would hardly pass for journalism 25 years ago.

A super league is inevitable.

Petitti was in a tough spot. If he does nothing, he has all (well, all but 1) of the conference's FB coaches and AD's mad at him.

And don't forget, in order to take the action that he did, Petitti had to get approval from the B1G executive committee - which includes athletic directors, senior administrators and faculty reps from all Big Ten schools.

this was not Petitti acting alone. the decision was supported by the entire conference.

and Petitti had access to information provided by the NCAA. the NCAA has evidence detailing the entire in-person scouting system.

Michigan broke the rules. Michigan is being punished. Michigan is upset because they were trying to run out the clock until after the CFP Championship game.

as far as leaving - are other conferences really lining up to admit a school that was involved in an extensive effort to violate rules and gain a competitive advantage? "Hey, we cheated and broke the rules. I'm sure your conference will be thrilled to let us join."

@goldengophers that's a popular sentiment and I don’t disagree with it, key word eventually.

My point is that the completely unnecessary rush to torch a bridge can cause it to be sped up significantly.

Michigan is in talks with Washington State and Oregon State to join them in a 3 way out West. Half a six pac was the best name they could come up with in their proposal.
Then they really could be “Champions of the West”.

Chickensh!t move.

They shouldn't have punished Michigan nything the investigations are finished. Then, they should hammer Michigan with no mercy.

If they wanted to make a statement, then they should have publicly said that they want the CFP committee to leave Michigan off of all CFP ballots this year. It's not an enforceable punishment, but it sends a message about how this season is tainted and how hard the punishment for Michigan will be.

the only reason people want them gone is because we couldnt beat their 3rd string

Because NBC has only so many timeslots, and would have to reduce the number of slots used for Notre Dame and the B1G.

Michigan home games might be more valuable than Minnesota vs Purdue
