Michigan fires Moore

If you're too lazy to watch an 8 minute video, I'm going to assume you're too lazy to read any synopsis I'd give you.

By the way, to address the concerns of a different poster, I'm aware of Deace's politics and I disagree with him on most everything, but he's a dyed in the wool Michigan guy so I find his takes on Wolverine football interesting. Granted, he's not a football savant/oracle like many of us here on Gopher Hole are, but he is in the lion's den — or, the wolverine's den, if you will.

Michigan is Michigan. When it comes to football, they have resources that Minnesota can only dream of. I doubt we'll see them scraping the bottom of the barrel for their next coach.
Not in a location to listen to it at the moment Mr Sassy Pants. They won’t be scraping the bottom of the barrel but they did hire Moore, Hoke wasn’t exactly cream of the crop either.

Hoke was doing well at San Diego St and was a "Michigan Man". Hire made sense at the time until JK beat Michigan

They are Michigan, which means they'll never be desperate. That doesn't preclude them from making a poor choice, however. Hiring the wrong coach is not the same thing as having limited options.

Also, I am not up to speed on the rules, but it seems as though they don't have to limit their search to coaches who aren't currently under contract. Hypothetical example: might Deboer be getting a call? Dan Lanning? Both Deace and Klatt said that a good strategy for a school as prestigious as Michigan should and probably will be to consider all the top coaches and then "make them say no".

Actually, Hoke was a hot commodity his first time through at San Diego State and was rumored for a lot of step-up jobs. Gophers were on that list and I know I'm not the only one who remembers Maturi's secret flight (that he vehemently denied) to San Diego to woo Hoke. Turns out that hot turns to lukewarm pretty quickly.

Would PJ pick up the phone if they called? 100% and wouldn't even blame him. Would he take it? who knows? possibly. Question becomes will they call? I'd venture to guess he's at least 10 deep on their current list.
According to the report I saw, he's like 6 or 7

Actually I think it was Larry Ellison’s wife who convinced Larry to use some of the crumbs from his Oracle billions to fund that.
Isn’t he an Illinois guy? Crazy to let your babe fin dom you like this. Let’s honey pot him with some twin cities huzz so the gophers can get in on the action.

Matt Campbell:
35-15 at Toledo
72-55 at Iowa State
Now he has a new, exciting opportunity at Penn State

In comparison:

P.J. Fleck:
30-22 at Western Michigan
65-44 at Minnesota

No, I don't think Michigan will look to hire Fleck. But, if you compare Fleck's record with Campbell's, I certainly wouldn't laugh at the idea of P.J. getting a call someday from a bigger, more prestigious job with more resources, like a Penn State. Campbell's and Fleck's records are at least roughly comparable.

Dude LITERALLY owns one of the Hawaiian islands. He could afford to pay everyone on the the team $10 million.

Dude is a winner at Minnesota, it's not unrealistic. I don't know if it's likely for Fleck, however, unless he's ready to put RTB to the side. I don't see Michigan allowing oars or the posting of nontraditional slogans anywhere in their storied football tradition

Exactly. If they are going to hire PJ, they are going have to buy into the whole experience. I bet they go for the DC on the chargers. No shot they get Cignetti or DeBoer right?

PJ at Michigan LOL.

I’m just thinking a lot of other big name programs already went through this process. Some big names are off the board now. I know they can still make a big splash, but seems to me like they might have to overpay someone.

Hot commodity for a Minnesota level program. If not for Michigan ties it’d be underwhelming by their standards.

I know there are plenty of old timers that lurk around here, so allow me to translate the above for those that may have no idea what’s going on in the quoted post:

A farmer may sow eggplant deeply within the fertile soil among a field of supple peach trees. Following a particularly wet growing season, said farmer can be expected to be very, very happy.

Fried egg plant appetizers with peach pie on a rainy day make me extremely happy.
