Sure BB is a total tool but at least he helped rid the administration of any excuses for getting rid of Brewster. And while they're at it the regents need to address another deficiency in the athletic department: AD Joel Maturi. The order the U takes with this is important. Lets not start with firing Brewster. Maturi needs to go first so he doesn't have the opportunity to jack up the next hire. Maturi's replacement should have the opportunity to pick his own candidate. We need to start over since this operation is obviously too big for anyone in that department to handle. Maturi and then Brewster, let the rebuilding process begin.

Why did it take this long for someone to recommend this approach?

What?

Oh.

What's the best scenario:

A. Saddle the new prez with an AD and FB coach he had no part in selecting
B. Saddle the new prez with Maturi and a new FB coach that Maturi selected
C. Let Brew coach another year and let the new Prez decide the direction of the athletic department

As painful as it is to say, I'm looking long term and say that we swallow hard and let Brew stay at the helm in 2011. It hasn't been exactly horrible for Colorado, Illinois and Maryland so far in 2010.

Sorry Zman, just taking my daughter's approach. If I turn down her request the first time she continues with the same request at an amazingly high rate of repetition until I am relent. It seems to work on a range of requests on a multitude of items as long as they don't delve into the illegal or immoral. I will admit it seems to work much better when the requests are coming from a precocious ten year old than from a middle aged alumni but I thought I'd give it a shot.

Problem is the next president may not care much for football or know much about coaches. Maturi has been burned and knows the landscape (interesting that he talks with Alvarez several times a month). What's worse - the devil you know or the one you don't know?

Are we there yet?

Are we there yet?

This is a strong argument for why a decision on either of the two will not be made this year. The incomming president needs to make these decisions.

If you want Maturi gone, that means you want Brewster to stay. Do you really want in interim AD making the hire? Even if we fired Maturi now, the new AD wouldn't be in place in time to make the hire.
