Melvin Gordon declares for NFL Draft

I think his stock suffered against tOSU. He looked very pedestrian against a good defense. He seems to be a bit of a suck/ prima-donna. (twisted ankle comments, body language after getting hit, frequently pulls himself out after good runs).

Maybe like all the others, it is the system not the back. James White looks pretty pedestrian in the NFL at the moment.

I don't think this year's Wisconsin O-line was anywhere near as good as lines in their recent past. They were getting tossed around with regularity last Saturday night. Granted, tOSU is mighty good up front, but it's almost like they were throwing the O-linemen at Gordon.

I thought his body language in the OSU game was pretty telling. I know the score was out of hand, but there's something to be said (and often is by many coaches) for players fighting hard until the final whistle. Nice leadership.

Pretty sure there were whispers that he got benched against LSU for pouting like a baby.

I think people are too quick to anoint Gordon as the best modern day Badger running back. He is freaky athletic but my money is with Ron Dayne. Gordon hurts you with his long runs and I agree there are a lot of them. Dayne had some long runs too but he also hurt his opponents many times with a one yard gain.
Wisconsin had better hang tough with Auburn or Melvin could check out for the NFL by halftime.

The reason I thought this may be sarcastic was because many people thought Ron Dayne was a bust in the NFL and he was the king of the one or two yard gain. That Badger Oline has made a lot of running backs look really good.

Gotcha. I can see that.
The Badger line was outstanding for Dayne but he was a great college running back.

I watched Dayne and Gordon a lot but admittedly my memories are mostly of Gopher encounters. Dayne killed us multiple times whereas Gordon was just another piece of the Badger win. Of course, the Gophers are better now as a team and I would argue the Badger were better as a team during the Dayne years.

I guess they're both really good.

You realize he's not going to be running against Illinois and Purdue defenses in the NFL, right?..

Right I just think he is better than Ball, White, etc. He's got the speed to be a good back in the NFL. And his better than Michael Bennett ever was in my opinion.

Gordon gained a ton of yardage by getting to the outside, breaking a tackle, and letting loose. What stops that? Quick defenses that can seal the edges, and defenses that are good at tackling. That's why the Gophers had just about as much success in containing him as anyone else this season.

Guess what NFL defenses are like? Quick and effective tacklers.

I think he has a chance to be a fine NFL back. But there's no way in hell that he's a star.

I think he is toast when he has to compete against secondaries that are faster than him and professional defenders who aren't dumb enough to try to arm tackle.

Start earning some money early before the clock runs out on those knees.

Great move in his case. Great for the Gophers.

Wouldn't it be great if Cobb ends up with the Vikings?

Heck I hope the Vikes end up with Gordon. Hell of a back. Cobb could be a solid NFL back, so long as he's given the chance. He has the tools to grind out 3, 4, 5 yards a pop and occasionally get that 10-30 yard scoot.
