Melvin Gordon declares for NFL Draft

I just hope he doesn't get his ankle intentionally twisted.

He's the one WI running back I think has a good shot of doing well in the NFL.

I think he's an extremely good back and the best running back they've had over there since the dawn of the Alvarez era. It will be interesting to see if his talent transfers to the pros. He'll have to refine his technique and get better at reading holes, but you can't teach speed and he has got that.

He reminds me of Jamaal Charles, he'll be a good NFL back.

That's a comp I read recently. The difference between the two is scouts knew Charles could catch the ball when he came out of the college. Wisconsin's offense didn't require Gordon to do that so he'll have to show if he has that skill.

Well, whether he ends up being good in the pros or not (I think he's going to be great), he was as good of a running back in college as I've seen in a long time.

I'm glad he's gone.

A great college running back to be sure. But he gained a lot of yardage outside the tackles and he probably won't get that kind of advantage on NFL defensive linemen who can run like B1G safeties and linebackers who can run like, well, running backs. It will be interesting to see how he does; Le'Veon Bell has certainly proven that a B1G back can be elite at the next level.

I think his stock suffered against tOSU. He looked very pedestrian against a good defense. He seems to be a bit of a suck/ prima-donna. (twisted ankle comments, body language after getting hit, frequently pulls himself out after good runs).

Maybe like all the others, it is the system not the back. James White looks pretty pedestrian in the NFL at the moment.

I just hope Melvin isn't drafted by the Vikings.

That would be an unfortunate turn of events.

For him.

Something changed for me towards the end of the season. Maybe I just wasn't paying enough attention. His antics in the last few games soured me on him. Projecting NFL greatness is surprisingly hard when you consider the number of first-round busts, and undrafted or late-round Hall of Famers. I'll be interested to see if he's mentally tough enough. I'm pretty sure Cobb is.

Dr. Don beat me to the ankle jokes, but he should keep whining in the NFL. I hear seasoned NFL vets think its really cool when rookies complain about getting tackled.

I think people are too quick to anoint Gordon as the best modern day Badger running back. He is freaky athletic but my money is with Ron Dayne. Gordon hurts you with his long runs and I agree there are a lot of them. Dayne had some long runs too but he also hurt his opponents many times with a one yard gain.
Wisconsin had better hang tough with Auburn or Melvin could check out for the NFL by halftime.

I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not.

I thought his body language in the OSU game was pretty telling. I know the score was out of hand, but there's something to be said (and often is by many coaches) for players fighting hard until the final whistle. Nice leadership.

I agree. Tough to keep your head up as a tailback when you are down to the final 5 offensive lineman though.
