Meineke Car Care Bowl vs. Texas Tech: Pregame Thread

Yes, yes and yes. I have 4-season tix, make the annual donation, and ordered in advance of the deadline. Furthermore, I purchased 12 away game tix for UNLV, Iowa, WI, and Nebraska through the U tix office this year. I guess I don't show enough love?!? (Maybe it was scalping those Illinois tix that did me in?) I realize the bowl itself and not the U controls most of what goes on with available seating but with only 2500 tix sold-to-date I have a hard time believing that this is the best they can do. If you look at all my posts on this site, I think you'll find that aside from my knowing next to nothing about most things in life I’m if nothing else an adherent Gopher football fan. I hate to say it, but this one thing has really soured me on the program. Perhaps I’ll get over it but at the moment, I’m ready to check out on the program.

Didn't mean for my post to sound like an attack, if it did. I purchased tix to all the same away games as you (including buying IL tix on StubHub) but without the donation. However, I didn't go for the $75 seats so I can't compare to see if you got screwed by the ticket office. Maybe I could've shared your pain if I had.

No worries as I did not take it as an attack. As you can see, I'm not too happy about things. I'm mostely venting to myself but nice to know someone actually read my rant.

@GophersNow: Kill said Gray is 100% and looks like he did in the second game of the season. Hoping for big game from him. #Gophers

Go Gophers!!

per Sid:

Gray healthy

Gophers football coach Jerry Kill is not going to announce his starting quarterback for the Dec. 28 Meineke Car Care Bowl game against Texas Tech, so the Red Raiders don't have the opportunity to prepare accordingly.

Kill might be saying that Philip Nelson will start, but if you want my opinion, I don't think there's any doubt that senior MarQueis Gray, who is 100 percent healthy, will start and give the Gophers their best chance to win.

"You know, right now Philip Nelson is our starting quarterback, but MarQueis, I would tell you this is the first time he's been really healthy since we started the season," Kill said. "We want to keep the redshirt on Mitch Leidner, so [Gray] is working at quarterback. He'll certainly be used sufficiently in a lot of situations. But he's too good of an athlete to be standing over next to me [on the sideline]. We'll certainly utilize him, I'm just excited about seeing him healthy and moving around.

"He's doing a great job. We look forward to having a healthy MarQueis Gray in the bowl game, and that will help our football team, there's no question about that."
Jottings

• There will be two players with interesting ties to the opposing teams at the Meineke Car Care Bowl. Eric Stephens Jr., a Red Raiders running back with 414 yards rushing and five touchdowns on 84 carries this season, originally committed to Minnesota before changing his mind and going to Texas Tech. Then there is Gophers linebacker Keanon Cooper, who played at Skyline High School in Dallas and committed to Texas Tech before changing his mind and coming to Minnesota.

per Sid:

"Gophers football coach Jerry Kill can take credit for getting two teams into a bowl game, having recruited 75 percent of the players on the Northern Illinois team that will face Florida State in the Orange Bowl on Jan. 1."

per Shooter:

Gophers coach Jerry Kill and Texas Tech interim coach Chris Thomsen will be honorary captains and make the coin toss Sunday at the Vikings-Texans game at Reliant Stadium, where on Friday they'll coach their teams in the Meineke Car Care Bowl.

The Gophers' traveling party that was to leave Saturday for Houston via Sun Country Airlines totaled 252 on two planes -- one for players and one for staff and families.

Ballout 4 me&GT.

Interesting, probably didnt make the trip.

My feeling is that the Gopher D shows up big time in a big game, & puts enough of a clamp on the prolific TT offense to keep it close, if not outright win it.
The Gopher offense will show improvement over the last few games of the regular season, & Q will stand on his head & go out in a blaze of glory.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Here's the wonderful first sentence:
The Meineke Car Care Bowl will consist of two programs who have never before played each another, as the Minnesota Golden Gophers and the Texas Tech Red Raiders are set to square off on Friday, Dec. 28 at Reliant Stadium in Houston.
