Media tweets say VCU actively working on restructuring Shaka's contract

lotta rumors are starting to fly...I'm guessing the dust will settle soon

Also, take a look at the VCU message board. It sounds like everyone over their is spying on our threads. More hits for the GopherHole!

Okay... who cares.

And I have no intrest to visit a VCU message board.

Shaka has increased his salary the last two offseasons - but he is way more interested in keeping his staff and increasing the basketball program's reach. That's why VCU is starting to build a practice facility this spring in the $15-20 million range. $7 million have already been donated by two different local businesses.

Agreed. If all Shaka cared about was money, he'd be gone by now. Money is most likely a factor, but not the biggest.

The facility thing makes me wonder if NT had a commitment from Denny he could lure Shaka in. And by commitment I mean the full 20 million type commitment.

$3 million has been promised over the next 10 years by a donor. $4 million has been pledged to the athletics department, not specifically to the practice facility.

Good luck on "starting to build a practice facility this spring".

That's not out of the question. For T. Denny, that's the double whammy - adulation for building the building AND for pulling in the rock-star coach.

And he gets his name on the building.

Both donations are by companies to the "athletic department". At VCU that is the basketball program, since VCU does not sponsor football or hockey. Basketball is revenue producing sport. It will happen, as you know you announce donations once you've received 50% of the projected costs of the project. Then you go after your school's small donor base - hoping to get small pledges of a few thousands. Norwood knows how to do it, and VCU's new AD McLaughlin is no slouch at raising funds either.

Agreed. He has a chance to be a hero here. The entrance to the facility better be a giant replica of his head. That's all I know.

A lot of it has to do with Shaka wanting improvements in facilities and get more money for his assistants, not neccessarily himself.

I can't say this for fact, but I am pretty sure that Teague and Sanford have a verbal agreement on the facility barring the outcome of the coaching search, which I'm told will be Smart.

I'm happy to bet against your claim that VCU will begin building a practice facility this spring.

They are "hoping". May be this spring or within the calendar year. Depends on how fast the smaller donations come in. VCU already owns the land next to the Seigel Center.
