Media Prediction Thread: Minnesota at Nebraska

I've always said the most knowledgeable college football journalists work in Nebraska.

Don't buy the "players won't be fired up" angle. It's a Saturday night game after getting humiliated the week prior, players will have no issue getting revved up.

Maybe it's reverse psychology? Considering the uncertainty over Armstrong, this is a tricky game to call. Tell me definitely whether Armstrong will play - or won't play - and I would have a much better idea how I feel about this game. Especially considering the fact that the Gophers will play the 1st half with a jumbled linebacker rotation.

Then again, sometimes it seems that the more optimistic I am about the Gophers going into a game, the worse they play. So maybe it's better that I'm apprehensive about this game.

Nebraska vs. Minnesota Prediction

The line won’t be released until there’s more of a clear indication whether or not Armstrong will play. Even if he does, he won’t be the one having to stop Smith, who will get 125 yards and two touchdowns on the ground in Minnesota’s win.

Nebraska vs. Minnesota final score prediction: Minnesota 24, Nebraska 20

Go Gophers!!

I never understand why people sell their own team down the river and pick the opponent.

Aaah, maybe they're being honest and they think the other team is better. I know, it sounds crazy, but Donald Trump running for President sounded crazy a couple of years ago. but, if I'm convinced the Gophers are going to lose a particular game, I'm not going to come on here and predict a Gopher victory out of loyalty. I don't think that's "selling your own team down the river."

Trump running for President still sounds crazy...just sayin'.

They should be fired up but Nebraska since Bo was around randomly seems to sort of show up to a game and just wander around on the field for a while looking generally uninspired. Maybe it isn't an issue of being fired up but it is something.

I know you're being tongue-in-cheek, but IIRC the NE college football media are known to be knowledgeable and balanced. So maybe they're on to something...

Me thinks given SLs prediction history he might be displaying a tad bit of sarcasm.

I've always liked Yarina. He seems like an upstanding fella.

College Football News

After allowing 561 rushing yards in the last two games and four scores, the Huskers are about to get run over in a close, tough game – because Minnesota always plays close, tough games – that’ll come down to the final drive. Nebraska will have the ball with a chance to win, and the final drive will stall.

Final Score

Minnesota 26, Nebraska 23

I guess I would be OK if this described the game.

Athlon chimes in with additional analysis and prediction:

Final Analysis From what I've seen, a blowout loss is easier to recover from than a close game where you thought you had a chance to win. Look for a focused and motivated Nebraska team to take the field and attack the Gophers on both sides of the ball right from the start. Even with Ryker Fyfe under center, the Minnesota secondary is undermanned against one of the better receiving corps in the Big Ten. I like Fyfe to put his arm on display early, connecting on some deep balls that lead to things loosening up in Minnesota's front seven. This should go a long way in helping a Cornhusker running game that has struggled with consistency as of late. When the Gophers have the ball, I have a tough time seeing them moving the changes consistently, given that they are fairly one-dimensional and predictable. Nebraska's talented athletes on defense should be able to prevent Minnesota from finding its offensive rhythm.

Prediction: Nebraska 27, Minnesota 16

The secondary is the healthiest and least hampered by outside forces that it has been all year. Not sure how they say our secondary is undermanned unless they simply mean we suck?
