Florida law requires that felony charge cases be brought to trial within 175 days--which in Trevor's case would have been October; unless the defendant moves to delay the trial. Fla Law link: http://www.criminaldefenseattorneytampa.com/FloridaDefenses/SpeedyTrial.aspx

So YES I believe Trevor has delayed his trial and this is what I believe the media has said. So whether or not Trevor committed a felony, he is responsible for delaying the trial.

The media has not said that. They have stated that the trial has been pushed back because they have not been able to get the depositions due to witness scheduling and logistics.

The intial change from August to December was requested by Trevor's attorney IIRC. The subsequent delays have been court/witness related. If he is indeed innocent and has solid proof, I think Trevor and his attorney grossly miscalculated Maturi's response to this matter. They seem to have thought there would be no issue with him being allowed to play while the trial was delayed until the Spring. Thereby ensuring his season is not interrupted and following a supposedly sound defense strategy for cases like this. I have a feeling had they known he'd have to sit, and how hard it would be to get depositions from other basketball players/coaches in the middle of the season, they'd have taken the August court date and had this matter setttled.

Some blame for this goes to his attorney for being naive enough to think the U would be naive enough to let an accused felon play, regardless of circumstances and part of the blame goes on Maturi. He could easily have let it be known as soon as he knew the facts (June, July?) that Trevor wouldn't play until it was settled. Instead he hmm'd and hawed and hedged his bets until the absolute last minute as is his way.

If you are defending a kid for a felony, the very last thing you take into consideration is how it will affect his basketball season. It is standard practice by defense attornies to push back trials.

I have no comment on this... just wanted to say that I love your name.

That is all

+1. Trevor is looking at a serious charge and needs to do what is best for his legal defense. Getting back on the court is much less important than doing time and having a felony on your record.

And I love the name as well.
