Gopher fans will be excited or at least won't be complaining about one or the other coordinators. If that's the case, Minnesota probably will have winning seasons with January One Bowls.

In looking at a couple threads, Fisch is the coordinator that's catching most of the criticism now. Prior to his arrival, dissatisfaction was directed toward Dunbar.

It's the reverse situation of few years back. During Mason's tenure, it was the defensive coordinators that drew continuous complaints. David Gibbs had the one season when most were happy with the defense - 1999 Season. If memory serves me correctly, Gibbs then left for the NFL. He was replaced by Moe Ankeny (everyone's favorite), followed by Greg Hudson, and then David Lockwood. All three provided a lot of fodder for GopherHole threads. Talk focused then on the inept defenses (meltdowns and the blowouts in Madison and Iowa City) much like the offense during the last six games of last year and the last half of this year games draw the greatest degree of attention.

Mason also went through his fair share of offensive coordinators in the early years: I forget the former Ohio State assistant that was his first coordinator. He was followed by Steve Loney. In 2000, Mitch Browning and Tony Petersen were co-offensive coordinators through 2006.

Hopefully experience, more athletic recruits, and continuity in the coaching ranks will result in more wins and less focus and frustrations about the perceived attributes or weaknesses of the coordinators.

Go Gophers!!
