White, Bostick suspended from Gophers basketball team

Freshman Royce White and senior Devron Bostick have been suspended indefinitely from the Gophers men's basketball team for a violation of team rules, coach Tubby Smith said Tuesday morning. Smith provided no additional details about the disciplinary action.

The Gophers open their exhibition season Thursday night against the University of Minnesota-Duluth at Williams Arena at 7 p.m. The season opener is Nov. 13 against Tennessee Tech (Williams Arena, 7 p.m.).

Well this is convenient.

Absolutely ridiculous.

Well, kids are kids basically. A coach can only do so much to instill a good work ethic and common sense into an 18 - 20 year old kid. Ultimately no one is responsible for their own actions apart from themselves. I think we level blame on coaches a bit too prematurely sometimes when frequently the culprit is the normal human frailties and immaturity all kids of that age suffer from.

Hopefully it's not too serious.

Royce

had baggage coming in. He better get his act together and fast.

There is one big difference: Tubby holds all players accountable. Brew holds a couple players accountable.

Like Whaley's and hacksaw's, Brew is handling Carter's deal internally.

We now have no right to question what Meyer or Ferentz or Bielema do with their players. Brew is no different.

I feel bad for the season ticket holders who apparently are paying outrageous prices already, having to watch a terrible non-conference schedule without there big time blue chipper running the court. Come on Royce, get your sh.it together.

 How is this any different than Mckinley or Dandridge? Just because he doesn't throw every player suspension or discipline to the media doesn't mean there's no punishment. Get over it.

Fight with cops, run sprints and play in the next game. Heckuva message.

Multiple threads ripping Urban Meyer...he at least suspended the kid for a half.

Brew is trying to get those W's GN covets...surely he'll get them in a way he can be proud of as a HC.

I think it is important to point out that Brewster has 85 schlarship players, Tubby 14. Right now Tubby has issues with nearly 25% of his players- Brew under 10%.

I agree that we should not be holier than thou but I have always felt that way.

PS So much of this is speculation. We don't what White-Bostick did, perhaps Carter's is also greyer than it seems.

You can't be serious....I think Carter deserves some punishment, but come on. He got drunk and sassed a cop. Spikes was trying to gauge out a kid's eye during a football game.

Let me state again that I think Carter needs some sort of public punishment...but Spikes did gouge the guy's eye. For sure. There is tape of it. He wasn't picking the guy's nose. Also note that he already gets off lighter than normal because in the "real world" that behavior gets you arrested for assault.

It's difficult to compare the 2 since one happened on the field and the other did not. There is no court of law for what happens on the field.

The Spikes situation is really abhorrent. And the excuses I've heard made actually made it worse. I've had Florida fans tell me he was retaliating for an earlier gouge, which makes it premeditated and an obvious intent to injure. There is no place for that in the sport. None.

wow! why do some of you fools insist on making this a football vs. basketball or brewster vs. smith thing?! it is not and should never be presented in that light. they are both team's of the university of minnesota. both coaches are friends and support each other. i would also guess many of the u of m athletes are friends and support each other regardless of what team they play on.

the way some of you jaded, old curmudgeons try to isolate the various team's from each other as it they play for a different school in a different city is really lame. unlike some of you i find that it is pretty easy to support the football program, the basketball program, the hockey program, the baseball program, etc.

get over yourselves!
