Max

It doesn't appear to me that McCarthy has the pain tolerance to o play quarterback in the NFL. I am sure it hurts to grip the football but at that level you have to battle through certain things

When JJM tried to battle through it (same injury) in the Giants game, it led directly to TD going the other way.

Discretion is the better part of valor in that situation.

Or he just assumed the dude who took out his leg was an enemy

Yeah that's probably it.

In any case, the right play is to turtle up with all the humans near by with a lot of them wearing different color jerseys.

Wrong business decision.

In real time, I actually thought he tripped over a defensive lineman, too. I can see how he might've thought that as well but he still needed to maintain his awareness until he heard a whistle.

If only there was a way the refs could signify that a player was down and the play was over...

He's better than whatever green bay trotted out there today, but Max will never be an NFL starter and we need to upgrade the back up spot if we are going to continue to role with JJ
There was no need for him to play the second half of a game they had handily 🥳 in control.

They may have told him to come out when it started hurting and was noticeable over the cortisone/tordol shot he got if they were ahead by ten or more.

Was really hoping Max would get a TD yesterday. I don't think he's gunna get another chance at this point...

If Max decides he wants to keep playing football before moving on with real life he can most likely stick as a #2/#3 guy for the Vikings or some other team. The bar for backup QBs is not very high and there are a lot of journeyman QBs with similar skill sets to Max.

He is unlikely to ever be a regular starter at the NFL level but if he wants to he can probably still collect a really nice paycheck as a backup QB.

At minimum, he should try to stick it out to qualify for the NFL pension. He was active/played enough for 1 Year Credit. 2 to go.

All he had to do was stay down.
It was almost like after he tripped and his the ground that there was this interval of about a second when all of a sudden a light bulb went off and he remembered he was playing pro football and could get back up. Clearly a brain fart.

That's also a chicken shit move on his part, JJM makes a mistake and then his hand hurts? I am guessing his hand is "fine" if he scores points on that drive instead.

That seems a bit harsh given that x-rays showed there indeed was a fracture and he missed the next game. Gripping the ball without excruciating pain seems to be important to function for a QB.

Yesterday my hunch is the pain killer wore off in the 2nd half.

You're a pussy if you don't play through hand fractures on your throwing hand in a meaningless game.

Its the NFL and JJ doesn't have the equity to only be hurt when it's not going well. There are plenty of guys with similar undisclosed injuries playing across the league. If you're really injured don't play but don't pretend guy it out and then use it as a crutch when it's not going well. I doubt the pain killer wore off plus it would be fairly easy in an NFL locker room to get more. A year from now JJM's fifth year isn't going to be picked up if he doesn't develop a higher tolerance for pain, among other things

I don't think JJM is at a point where any potential start is meaningless. He needs every opportunity he can get to prove he can be a franchise QB. There's going to be meaningful games where he is hurt and the team is going to need him. It's the NFL the healthiest you're going to be is on day one of training camp.

He has a fracture in his throwing hand. He tried to play through it, re-aggravated it during yesterdays game and couldn't continue.

There was zero point in him continuing the game yesterday.

But I mean how important is the throwing hand to a QB really?...... :)

Going to be an interesting off season for the Vikings to see what they decide to do about the QB position. Pretty tough to go into next year with any sort of confidence in JJ given how fragile he has proven to be in his first 2 seasons.

If it was really that bad then he shouldn't have played in the first place. But we're arguing about an injury prone immature QB. Just another instance where the injury news only comes out and gets played up after a poor performance, same with the phantom ankle injury against Atlanta. I doubt JJM and his alto ego "9" will be here after 2026. If I am wrong I am wrong but I'll just say I am not in doubt

If it's not going well because of the injury, then quite frankly it's idiotic to keep playing especially when neither the Giants nor the Packers game had playoff implications for the Vikings.

Aside from that, getting multiple pain killing shots on the same day would also be beyond moronic. Serious health concerns. I trust the NFL has evolved from that practice.

One of the other things is not sustain an injury to begin with.

Yesterday when JJM removed himself, it was after he played his best half in terms of stats as a Viking.

As for the ankle, phantom? Seriously? You really think they would not have had JJM as the backup for Wentz instead of Max if it was at all feasible to play? (Weeks 3-8)

Gonna have a 1000 post thread about a one year Gopher player arguing if he’s good enough to be a third stringer in the NFL…😂

Welcome to that time of year most college football fans dread. The time between bowl season and spring ball.
The transfer portal actually helps some with this particular window and with the playoff as well there is at least some college football stuff going on.

The brutal one is the window after spring and before the start of fall camp. That wasteland gets filed up with way-to-early predictions and lists to fill space.

Agreed! I just chose the first wasteland because it is sooner. What really gets me is when I go by a natural grass field that's just been mowed. Still to this day it gets me excited about a new season of college football.

Yes I am aware our Gophers play on artificial turf.
