No the coaches have been telling the kids to look for other options.

I know the number of scholarships are getting tight, but I can't imagine they told him to look elsewhere.

Too many OL suddenly? Changes in O-Line Scheme? Uncertainty on OL coaching?

Current Projected O Linemen:
Jr JonahPirsig
So Alex Mayes, Connor Mayes
Fr Luke Rasmussen, Jared Weyler, Tyler Moore
RFr Bronson Dovich, Ted Stieber, Nick Connelly, Quinn Oseland
Recruits Sam Schleuter, Conner Olson, Vincent Calhoun, Garrison Wright

I believe they did. Most likely making room for another recruit like Castillo, hopefully.

There is zero reason to believe that Kegel decommitted on his own. He was one of our more enthusiastic recruits and really enjoyed his visit. I feel bad for him. His Okie State offer probably isn't committable either.

I find it hard to believe we would have told him to look elsewhere. Possible, but I don't see it.

If they really like Castillo and Cushenberry a lot better and feel really good about our chances with both of them, then it becomes a lot easier to see why. I'm not a huge fan of it though, especially for an in-state guy like Kegel.

Interesting timing since his official visit was this past weekend. Usually visits help to confirm the commit but not in this case. Hopefully the others are solid. Maybe the new scheme doesn't suit his taste, or not having a known coach in place was a dealbreaker, or maybe didnt fit with the other guys, or maybe he decided he'd rather go to OSU after all. Maybe a little bit of everything, or none of the above. Good luck Wherever you end up Matt. You have to do what's in your best interest.

Could it be that Foster and Kegel must not fit the O-Line scheme Claeys has in mind - more agile athletic types that can shift and open up running lanes?

Maybe they are making room for Trystan Castillo and/or Lloyd Cushenberry.

Didn't someone say that when Claeys went to scout Amir Watts, he didn't like Foster being man-handled and beaten by Amir?

I'm not a big fan of pulling offers this late in the cycle. It can leave guys high and dry. I know winning is important but loyalty and committed should still mean something on both sides. Did Kill ever pull offers? Serious question as I can't recall any.

Ko Kieft for Matt Kegel trade with NDSU?

I think only if they had academic issues. Almonzo Brown was the only guy who mutually parted ways and he had some grade issues. I know Maturi made Kill honor the commitments of guys still committed to Minnesota under Brewster. I hope we don't burn any bridges with certain coaches either.

Claeys doesn't seem like the type to sugarcoat. He is putting his stamp on his program. Claeys and Co. know they have up to three years to prove they can continue the program turn around or else they are all gone.

Being reported he will commit elsewhere tomorrow by Kyle golbrish

The crystal ball on 247 has him, 89% MN, 11% ISU, with offers from Ill and Pitt.

So the tweet he sent out today that says he is "not committed to the direction the program is going" is "zero reason" to think he possibly left on his own?

I would think it depends on where he commits to next... if it's a lower tier school than here, then it's most likely he was asked to look around. But if it's a better program, then most likely he left on his own. It's a pretty simple logic.

Could be that he doesn't like the changes in the offense. Still sucks.

watch him pick up a sconnie offer, kick our ass....go to the NFL

Agree 100%. We likely don't know the whole story, but if he was urged to explore other options, that's a pretty crappy thing to do to a kid.
