CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois volleyball dropped a Big Ten battle to UCLA at Huff Hall on Saturday night.

The Fighting Illini fell to 18-10 this year with a 10-8 conference record. The Bruins improved to 13-14 overall and 7-11 against league opponent.

Raina Terry logged a squad-best 22 kills in the match and 10 digs for her 22nd career double-double. Laynie Smith reached double figures for the 11th time in her career, posting 12 kills for the Illini. Setter Brooke Mosher paced the offense with 40 assists

The Cooks' younger son, Finley's skull formed to soon and wouldn't allow room for his brain to grow. He needed surgery to open the skull. Surgery went well and Finley is at home. The surgery had been scheduled earlier.

Wow, that's scary. Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery Finley.

Big game tonight. The Gophers are tied with USC for 6th place and one game ahead of Illinois. If they win their last two games, they will be at least tied for 6th. If they lose to Illinois or OSU, they could be tied for 7th place. Go Gophers.

Gopher defeated Illinois -20, 18, 22, 25. The last two sets featured big comebacks by Minnesota

Hanson with 22 kills, 53 attacks and 7 errors

Big win over a good team on the road. It was a roller coaster match. The Gophers lost some focus and intensity and let Illinois get big leads. But, the Gophers didn't give up and regained their composure. They have experience getting behind during the season and coming back. They have confidence in their ability to come back. But, they need to focus and not let teams get on big runs. It would be nice to see them jump off to good leads and be able to turn the screw on their opponent. Go Gophers. Beat OSU. Make a big run in the NCAA.

Meanwhile, what happened to Wookie? Sat, literally, the 4th set.

Also, Illinois isn't very good.

She has issues with her back. They are probably limiting the amount of playing time.

I know she's battling stuff but hard to believe they'd go into that match saying "you play 3 sets max."

She came out of her rotation toward the end of the 3rd set holding her back. My guess (and I'm someone who has back issues ) is that she aggravated the back so they sat her the rest of the match. Alex is a very good player, but we need a healthy Kenna in the lineup.

When you don't lose. Because Illinois is not very good.

I noticed after the last two matches that Wucherer hardly moves/sways when the team gets in a circle and spells 'Minnesota." It really suggests that small or twisting movements are uncomfortable.
