Match 16: Gophers host Michigan (11-17-24)

Does anyone think this team is improving? Just curious.

Stolen from VT:

Minnesota hitting errors by set:

Set 1 - 1
Set 2 - 13
Set 3 - 0
Set 4 - 1

Explains why they lost the second set 24-26.

Two more interesting stats:

Shaffmaster only served 7x and Hansen only 9x.

In contrast, Grote 14x, Palabiyik 17x, McGhie 17x and Acevedo (7 aces and only ONE error!) 34x.

And one more: 13 assists for Z.

I think the team can be as good as any, or as bad as any. Their biggest problem is consistency. I liked using Acevedo in the back row for Wucherer. I hope that they are finally figuring out the best combination of players and can go on a run at the right time of the season and into the tournament. We'll see.

It was a very good match. The Gophers lost a little focus and intensity in the second set--they got the yips and couldn't close it out. They were solid in the other sets. A lot of players had big games and stats. They are capable of winning the last four matches, although I think Wisconsin will be out for revenge. I do think a 3-1 record is doable. Go Gophers.
