Minnesota’s largest grassroots boys basketball event of the spring returns to the Twin Cities this weekend. Battle at the Lakes will take place at several high school gyms throughout the metro area and feature nearly 550 AAU and all-star club teams with some of the top talent from across the Upper Midwest and Canada.

More than 100 teams are expected across seven age divisions (17-11), with standout players from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Canada set to compete. First hosted by Prep Hoops in 2017, Battle at the Lakes has quickly become the must-attend event for elite hoops talent each May.

More than 200 college coaches from over 75 programs are expected to attend as they continue their spring recruitment.

This year’s headlining nationally known team is RWE, a touring powerhouse and social media sensation featuring:
  • Jasper Johnson: five-star University of Kentucky commit.
  • Tonde Yessoufou: five-star Baylor commit.
  • Jermaine O’Neal Jr.: four-star prospect and son of former NBA All-Star Jermaine O’Neal.
  • Nelson Neumann: talented player and viral standout with over 2 million TikTok followers.

Go Gophers!!

Old man on porch comment…

So glad that I grew up in an era where the automatic instinct was not to use I’ll my phone/camera out and begin filming—yes, hypocritical for me to watch a video and complain about those taking the video but the need for everyone to document everything and anything, no matter how benign, is so exhausting.

In the video, it appears things are under control fairly quickly. What happened after that to send people home?

Who's Cam Wilder? Never heard of her...

Legend!

I struggle to understand the want to watch meaningless basketball in a hot gym in the offseason. Maybe if I ran a recruiting service or was on the recruiting trail.

I don’t even want to go watch m own kids free 3on3 games other than I have to drive him there.

All in the name of revenue for someone.

Also deluded desire to be “in the know “ about the up and coming stars. I went one evening at Salvation Army years ago and that was enough for the rest of my life.

This from a former coach who couldn't find the motivation to actually go watch...
But if you are involved in high school, junior high basketball as a player or a coach, I think you wanna be there. If you are the parent of a current or future high school player...you wanna be there.
Parents need some perspective on how far their kid has to improve to be in the conversation.

And OBVIOUSLY, if you got a kid playing ... you 100% need to be there to support your kid! Fundamental.

Style of play, intensity of play, skill levels, discipline or lack of are all things to expand horizons and witness. Triumphs or failures....the game within the game...the little things. Sit with you your kid or players and talk about it....discuss it, share it together. It's how the words become understandable..."Coach (Dad), I understand what you mean now. Thanks for being here."
