There were several changes to Maryland football's depth chart Tuesday as the Terps head into the second half of the season against Minnesota.

At receiver, Brian Cobbs was elevated to starter at the 'Z' receiver spot with Jeshaun Jones out. Jones suffered what appeared to be a serious knee injury against Ohio State. Mike Locksley has yet to specify Jones' injury, which was a major hit considering he was replacing star receiver Dontay Demus, who's out for the season with a torn ACL.

At the 'JACK' linebacker spot, Durell Nchami Ois no longer listed. Instead, Lawtez Roger is the starter, backed by prized freshman Demeioun Robinson.

Linebacker Branden Jennings, who missed the Iowa and Ohio State games after suffering an unspecified leg injury against Kent State, still isn't listed on the depth chart. It's been hoped he'd be ready to return this week. He was one of Maryland's best defensive players before he went down, leaving the linebacker unit thin.

At the 'MIKE' linebacker, Ahmad McCullough is listed as the backup to Ruben Hyppolite. Walk-on Kobi Thomas had been the No. 2 there.

The best news comes at cornerback, where Jakorian Bennett is listed as a starter. One of Maryland's best defenders, he pulled his hamstring during the first half of the Iowa game and didn't play vs. Ohio State. He ranks third in the country and first in the Big Ten with 1.6 pass breakups per game -- the most per game of any Power Five player. With fellow starter Deonte Banks seemingly out for the year, Maryland can't afford to be without Banks for long. Senior cornerback Kenny Bennett, who missed the Ohio State game due to an injury, is listed as the backup to Tarheeb Still at cornerback.

True freshman Dante Trader, a stellar athlete who was also one of the nation's best lacrosse recruits, has impressed in limited duty and was promoted No. 2 at safety behind Nick Cross. Glendon Miller had been the backup there. With Jeshaun Jones out, speedy redshirt freshman Deajuan McDougle is listed as a co-backup at punt returner behind Still, along with Rakim Jarrett.

Talk about a MASH report.
Yeah, had heard they had a brutal run of injuries but that is an impressive list. Our injuries have been pretty isolated to the RB position and somewhat to the WR. Outside of that we have been healthy at most other spots (knock on wood).

the starting linebacker, Nchami, had season ending surgery, Locksley announced

Too bad that their wide receiver injuries are stacking up. Additionally McCullough is a former gopher commit that has apparently not had much of an impact the last 3 years.

I remember watching a quick corner who broke up some passes early in the Iowa v. Maryland game. I wonder if that was Jakorian Bennett.

Great name: Ruben Hyppolite. Hyppolite was queen of the Amazons in Greek mythology.

True freshman Dante Trader, a stellar athlete who was also one of the nation's best lacrosse recruits,

so, how many top lacrosse recruits are there?
Apparently there are about 70 D1 schools that offer lacrosse as a sport.

I tried to watch a game on TV once and could not figure out the rules.

Lacrosse is very popular and is growing quickly, even in Minnesota. The rules are pretty simple and its a lot of fun to play.

~8000 high school kids played lacrosse in Minnesota in 2018. In 2006 it was 2500.

I believe the Gophers had a TE from Texas in the early to mid '90s named Hypolite. (Just looked him up and he's now the principal of his hometown high school. Vincent Hypolite, graduated from the U in '97.)
